    (2024 - 2025 School Year)Bakersfield City School District is currently accepting applications for School Bus Driver Trainee sponsorship*. To become sponsored for behind the wheel training an online application must be submitted along with all the documents listed under the Minimum Application Requirements below.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Ability to learn mechanical operation of bus
    • Ability to learn traffic and school bus regulations
    • Possession of Type I school bus driver’s license (district may provide appropriate training for license)
    • Physical condition and emotional stability to drive bus with 50-90 children in appropriate manner
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff, students, and parents
    • Completion of 20 hours classroom training (TO-1) and passage of initial qualifying state examination
    • Must pass required tests
    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned
    JOB GOAL: To learn to transport students to and from school and on extracurricular activities in safe and efficient manner
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: APPLICANTS CHOSEN WILL BE TRAINED AND ASSISTED IN OBTAINING OR UPGRADING SCHOOL BUS DRIVER’S LICENSE IF THEY CAN QUALIFY TO MEET CALIFORNIA STATE AND CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL REGULATIONS; hourly employment; training schedules to be established by Transportation Department
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s “Improvement of Professional Services” handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable
    MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Current TO-1 Card (Classroom Training)
    • Original DMV Driver Record Printout (Dated within 30 days - driver record online not acceptable) - This must be brought to Human Resources
    • Class B permit
    • Medical Examination Report Form - Form MCSA-5875
    • Medical Examiner's Certificate - Form MCSA-5876
    • Resume (10 year work history)
    (To be considered, applicants must have a satisfactory driving record or history)
    You may bring copies of your documents (except the DMV Driver Record Printout which original must be submitted) to Human Resources to be attached to your application.
    This sponsorship in no way constitutes an assurance that the applicant will be hired as an employee of the District upon completion of the training requirements.
    * Sponsorship requires School Bus Driver Applicant/Trainee Instriction fee agreement

Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
