Deputy to Business Area Director will serve as Deputy to the Senior Director of a Tactical Solutions' (TS) Business Area. This role will focus on resource alignment within the business area and with other TS Business Areas and Space & Mission Systems (SMS) Strategic Capability Units (SCUs), program execution, and technology investment in order to satisfy the objectives and goals of the operating and strategic plans of TS and BAE Systems (the Company).
The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for aligning the Business Area's Sectors by direct and frequent collaboration with the Sector Leads, prioritizing capital and operating resources, and creation and tracking of the business operating plan.
  • Collaborate with TS leadership to oversee program execution, including program management reviews, program staffing, Business Area / SCU portfolio reviews; prioritize and drive issues to closure with SCU partners.
  • Drive consistent and accurately forecasted results cognizant of the business's financials, forecasting, new business, and staffing projections.
  • Interface and collaborate with TS core leadership (e.g., Operations, Business Processes, Deputy GM, etc.) to create and maintain a lean and profitable operating environment for programs. Ensure the staffing, tools, processes and capabilities are provided to support execution of the business area's portfolios. Ensure the needed capabilities to execute and grow the business are in good health.
  • Collaborate with TS Manufacturing leadership to ensure smooth transition of development programs into manufacturing where applicable.
  • Collaborate with TS Security and TS Operations to ensure a compliant, practical, and risk-managed security model for all of the business area's programs and pursuits.
  • Serve as the primary delegate to the Business Area Director with acknowledged authority to act on their behalf, including proposal and contract review signature authority.
  • Responsible for managing the business area's Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio, budgets, and reviews in collaboration with TS core staff; recommend IRAD investment priorities to the Business Area Director.
  • Serve as a key member of the Business Area's Leadership Team; ability to demonstrate a First Team mindset - prioritizing support and holding fellow leaders accountable as top priority. Drive and nurture cultural change to increase ownership and collaboration at all levels. Drive implementation of standardized processes to improve program performance and reporting.
  • Work with Senior Director to establish and maintain clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations between Sectors, programs, and the supporting SCU functional organizations. Assist with identifying professional development of staff and provide appropriate growth opportunities and mentorship.
  • Participate in the development of strategic planning, analysis, and decision making for expansion and growth of the Company. Recommend objectives and long-range plans to achieve growth and financial profitability of the overall company.
  • Perform individual assignments as directed; and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
  • 10% travel to customer sites in addition to local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • A strong understanding of TS' missions and operations with relevant industry and government relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills to support interfaces with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers and governmental figures at an executive level.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related technical or management degree.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $181000 - $250000
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
