Job Description BAE Systems is seeking a Reverse Engineer and Firmware Development Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the internal Research and Development Team supporting the Operations Section supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) National Cyber Range Complex (NCRC) Range Modernization Task Order (NCRC-RM).
This facility supports the modernization of Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) delivery of realistic cybersecurity environments for test and evaluation of major DoD acquisition programs and enabling realistic cyber operations training and certification events for the DoD Cyber Mission Force. The NCRC facility may also support non-DoD customers such as Department of Homeland Security (DHS), industry, academia and international partners. The successful candidate will work onsite at the Orlando, Florida Range Modernization site.
This key and critical position leading the Research and Development Team reporting directly to the Program Manager. Responsible for technical leadership of two unique thrusts of NCRC development: component and system level sanitization of testbed assets and integration and instrumentation of hardware and specialty software systems with NCRC tools and test assets. Leverages strong hardware and software reverse engineering and firmware development skills to develop unique approaches to ensuring the system integrity of black-box systems and to ensure unique assets meet test and training event requirements. Addresses the hardest sanitization and asset integration/instrumentation challenges and then works closely with the System Architect and Lead Software Developer to develop total solutions that address system requirements. Maintains familiarity with the sophisticated threats to NCRC systems and the peculiarities of evolving hardware platforms, including closed/proprietary systems. * Bachelor's degree with a focus in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline with corresponding experience and demonstrated mastery of relevant topics.
* 7 years of proven experience performing reverse engineering and analysis of hardware and embedded systems, including device firmware.
* DoD 8570.01M / IAT-II certification within 6 months of assignment to position (CCNA-Security, CySA, GICSP, GSEC, Security CE, CND, SSCP)
* Intermediate knowledge of operating system internals, hardware architectures, and assembly languages.
* Intermediate knowledge of C development.
* Basic knowledge of POSIX shell scripting.
* Intermediate knowledge of disassemblers, decompilers, and debuggers.
* Basic knowledge of network protocol analysis and reverse engineering.
* Ability to effectively and accurately convey status and identify, assess, and communicate risks.
* Demonstrated ability to work within and lead teams.
* Strong leadership and organizational skills. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills * 15 years of proven experience performing reverse engineering and analysis of hardware and embedded systems, including device firmware.
* 5 years of proven experience exploiting hardware and embedded systems, including firmware exploitation.
* Master's degree with a focus in computer science or computer engineering.
* Expert knowledge of operating system internals, hardware architectures, and assembly languages.
* Expert knowledge of C development.
* Expert knowledge of POSIX shell scripting.
* Expert knowledge of disassemblers, decompilers, and debuggers.
* Intermediate knowledge of network protocol analysis and reverse engineering.
* Intermediate knowledge of Python development.
* Intermediate knowledge of real-time operating systems.
