BAD RIVER BAND OF LAKE SUPERIOR TRIBE OF CHIPPEWA is Hiring an Early Head Start Home Visitor Near Ashland, WI

Summary: The Early Head Start Home Visitor will provide early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support services to eligible pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and their families through a series of weekly home visits (90 minutes) and scheduled socialization activities. The EHS home visitor will design, plan and carry out developmentally appropriate experiences that meet all component areas of Head Start, the school readiness goals established by the program, and the individual needs of the child. Each Home Visitor will maintain a maximum caseload of 10-12 infants, toddlers, and/or pregnant women.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Establish a trusting and caring relationship with each child and his/her family.

· Serve as an advocate between community resources and Early Head Start families

· Provide home visits and socialization experiences to promote, enhance, and monitor the development of each enrolled child.

· Provide screening and assessment for each child on the caseload.

· Partner with the family to develop self-sufficiency goals for the child and family.

· Assist families in identifying family resources and needs.

· Support family empowerment, involvement in the program, and positive family relationships.

· Model appropriate discipline techniques and positive self-esteem-building behaviors when working with the family.

· Partner with parents and families as they become life-long educators by observing, guiding, promoting, and participating in the everyday learning of their children at home, school, and in the community.

· Must comply with all state licensing requirements and Head Start Performance Standards.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

Required:

· Must have CDA home-based credential, comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate degree.

Preferred:

· Experience in the early childhood field is preferred.

· Knowledge of Parents as Teachers curriculum preferred.

· Must have knowledge and experience in child development, principles of child health, safety and nutrition, adult learning principles, and family dynamics.

· Must be able to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities and be non-resistant to change.

· Must comply with all state licensing requirements and Head Start Performance Standards.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Required:

· This is a required driver position, must possess a valid driver's license, and meet eligibility requirements for tribal insurance.

· Must be willing to incorporate Ojibway language into lesson plans when working with children and families.

· Must possess good organizational skills with sensitivity to details and confidentiality.

· Must be able to work as a team to provide services to families.

Background Check:

· This position is contingent on the required ability to pass a Bad River caregiver background check when working with children and/or the elderly.

· This is a required driver position, must possess a valid state driver’s license, adequate vehicle/liability insurance, and/or meet eligibility for Tribal insurance.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must meet by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires physical/in-person home visits, some walking, standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting to 50 lbs. Subject to inside and outside working conditions.

Subject to inside and outside weather conditions. The work environment includes the Bad River Head Start/Early Head Start, transports to local clinics, client homes, or community locations.
