About AZIZA PE&CE

AZIZA PE&CE (AP) is on a mission to renew the health and well-being of Black girls and LGBTQ youth and their communities through instilling Black history & culture, self-love, and solidarity into their souls. We envision a future shaped by youth who are empowered, thriving, mentally well, and self-sufficient. To realize this vision, we offer in-school, after-school, and summer programs dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved youth. AP uses culturally sensitive programming that is trauma-informed to give youth the tools to develop confidence, self-love, leadership, entrepreneurship, communication, and team-building skills. Additionally, AP works with the parents and families of the youth we serve to build better familial relationships and provide them with access to behavioral health and social services, as needed. Our approach has led to positive, sustainable improvements in mental health, educational, and personal development outcomes in the youth we serve, their families and their communities.

Responsibilities & Duties

Illuminate Youth Leaders (IYLs) are responsible for executing AP’s culturally sensitive program curriculum and activities after-school and pending contract award, in-school. IYLs work directly with the Director of Self Love and Solidarity to decide on lesson plans and experiences, lead programming for teens at different schools, and support Saturday programming sessions. The IYLs will also develop meaningful relationships with AP youth to serve as mentors and make referrals for behavioral health and social services. More specifically, IYLs are responsible for:

  • Reviewing and understanding AP curriculum in order to execute programming
  • Facilitating culturally sensitive youth programming
  • Handling the day-to-day operation of the program at sites
  • Researching current trends in classroom management and lesson presentations to ensure that the program is progressive and trend setting
  • Facilitating workshops, special events, and conferences for youth
  • Addressing program needs and ensuring proper delivery and growth
  • Making referrals to AP’s Director and eventually, Holistic Health Advocates for youth that need more intensive services

Qualifications

  • Two years experience working with teens REQUIRED
  • Strong organization, teaching, group facilitation, leadership, and writing skills
  • Flexible attitude and eagerness to learn
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and facilitation technology
  • CPR & First Aid certifications (preferred)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to connect with teens in a fun and engaging manner
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • This position will routinely handle objects weighing up to 25 lbs and on occasion lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Position Type & Salary: Part-Time 15 hours/week position at $18/hr transitioning into Full-Time position at $45,000 pending contract award

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
