THE ROLE
Avocado is currently looking for a Staff Accountant - Accounts Payable to be part of the Finance & Accounting team, reporting to the Accounting Manager.
The ideal candidate will help drive the success of the business by helping financial operations run smoothly and accurately inputting data to support informative financial reporting for management decision-making.
This is an opportunity to learn different aspects of accounting and work cross-functionally across different departments.
*Note on Location: Here at Avocado Green Brands, we treasure teamwork and working together in person. Depending on the role, you will be working on-site at one of our Fullerton locations. This is not a remote position.
*Note on Pay Transparency: As of January 1, 2023, California-based roles must provide a pay range on job postings. The paygrade for this role is $66,560.00-$90,000.00 Yearly. Most candidates with knowledge, skills and ability will have a starting pay rate of $66,750.00 annually.
WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON

• Invoice Processing:
  
  • Review and process a variety of invoices, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Code and classify invoices based on expense categories and department/project codes
  • Obtain necessary approvals and ensure timely processing
• Vendor Communication:
  
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors, addressing inquiries and resolving payment-related issues
  • Foster positive relationships with internal teams and vendors to ensure smooth transactions
• Reconciliation:
  
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts to ensure integrity of account balances
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, working closely with internal teams and vendors
  • Reconciles bank accounts and credit cards accounts monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
• Recordkeeping:
  
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of invoices, payments, and related documentation
  • Maintain vendor owner master list to facilitate invoice processing
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and audits
  • Gathering supporting documentation and performing recordkeeping.
• Compliance:
  
  • Assist with preparation of 1099s at year-end
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations
  • Participate in internal and external audits as necessary
• Process Improvement:
  
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Assist with the implementation of accounts payable automation software
  • Collaborate with team members to implement best practices
• Reporting:
  
  • Assist with month-end close and ensure necessary accruals are recorded
  • Generate regular reports on accounts payable metrics, contributing to financial reporting
  • Provide insights and analysis on key performance indicators
• Other:
  
  • Work on special projects or other assignments, as required
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Collaborating with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
• 2 -5 years experience working in accounts payable or a similar financial role.
• Oracle NetSuite experience is preferred, but not required.
• Must be a detail-oriented person with the ability to perform accurately and complete self-reviews of work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Stationary position: Must be able to remain stationary 80% of the time.
• Move: This role involves moving throughout the space to meet with different team members and customers.
• Operate: Constantly operates a computer and other office machines such as printers and tablets.
• Communicate: This role frequently communicates with other team members to update on the status of a task.
