WHAT IS AVID?

We accomplish this work by training over 85,000 educators every year through in-person and virtual professional learning opportunities.

WHAT IS THE JOB?

AVID Center is currently looking for a Superintendent in Residence to join our team. The incumbent will engage and support district and site leaders working to implement and sustain high-quality AVID programs. This position will leverage their experience and expertise in K-12 education to provide guidance, support program development, deliver leadership development services, and foster relationships with school districts and other educational stakeholders. This is a remote position that is open to any location within the contiguous united states, and requires plenty business travel ( /- 30%).
This role has a 3-Year term, with an expected end date of April 2027.

  • Generous Paid Time Off: This position is eligible for 27 days of PTO per year, with 12 paid holidays plus a winter break in between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
  • Continued education opportunities: All full-time employees with at least 1 year of continuous AVID Center service are eligible for $5,250 per calendar year in tuition reimbursement for qualifying coursework or certification. 
  • Company-provided equipment and home office set-up including a laptop and extra monitor. 
  • Health and Welfare Plans to support every aspect of your wellbeing: AVID offers several benefits plans through our provider, Cigna, of which the cost is greatly subsidized by AVID Center.

Pay rates for this position

We bring in all employees at the midpoint of the salary range for your role. Knowing that not all cities share the same cost of labor, we make offers using a tiered approach based on your geography. The majority of our employee-base live in a Zone 1 or Zone 2 location. 

For the Superintendent in Residence position, here is what we will offer:

Zone 1 (e.g. Charleston, WV, Cleveland, OH, Yuma, AZ, Omaha, NE, etc.): $179,724 annually

Zone 2 (e.g. Syracuse, NY, Ann Arbor, MI, Denver, CO, San Diego, CA, etc.): $193,204 annually

Zone 3 (e.g. Washington, D.C., Trenton, NJ, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, etc.): $206,683 annually

Zone 4 (e.g. Bridgeport, CT, New York City, NY, San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, etc.): $229,149 annually

WHO ARE YOU?
  • You are a proven leader who drives needed administrative, internal functions in support of partner needs.
  • You demonstrate the ability to build strong rapport and expand leadership networks.
  • You have experience designing, writing, and facilitating engaging professional learning for educators.
  • You have a track record of improving effectiveness of engagement activities.
  • You have strong systems thinking skills; you're a sense maker and thought partner who challenges the status quo and can see the implications of the parts on the whole.
  • You have experience working across functional lines of an organization to deliver on internal and external expectations.
  • You are a strong communicator and are highly effective in person and in virtual environments.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You are passionate about education and positively impacting the lives of students.
  • You are able to credibly influence decision makers to act on recommendations. 
  • You know how to understand partner objectives and perspectives, and turn them into action plans.
  • You have previous experience as a Superintendent in a K-12 educational setting that implemented AVID. 
  • You are comfortable working remotely with an ability for frequent travel (about 30%).

*Allowable Substitutions: Any combination of experience, training or credential certification endorsement that provides the incumbent/applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work, as determined by the AVID Center. Qualifying work experience, as identified by the Senior Director, Human Resources may substitute for the education requirement.
