We are looking for a well-qualified HR professional with exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships and provide consistent, high-quality customer service to support Wastewater Management (WWM) employees. As our new HR Generalist I, you will be a critical member of our team, responsible for ensuring that our HR strategies align with our business goals and supporting our Team Members. Under general supervision of the WWM HR manager, this position is responsible of the following:

  • Strategic HR Partnership: Facilitates the WWM recruitment process using standard recruiting procedures and hiring practices such as collaborates with hiring managers to update position descriptions, draft job advertisements, kick-off and debrief meetings, salary determination and hiring.
  • Assists in creating recruitment strategies for hard-to-fill positions.
  • FML Coordinator Assists with FMLA and ADA requests.
  • Assists with workers' compensation cases and ADA documentation.
  • Facilitates employee onboarding and offboarding to ensure a seamless experience for new hires and employees.
  • Makes recommendations for HR process & procedure improvements.
  • Helps with HR-related projects such as design and deliver training programs to enhance employees' skills and capabilities.
  • Compiles HR-related information and prepares reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations are followed.
The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization. In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations. Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities. Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail. Supports three divisions and resides in Burke but requires attending meetings or events at their different locations in VA (Government Center, Fairfax and Noman Cole Plant, Lorton).

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, or a related field.
BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned
functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level.
The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County
workforce. However persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 2 years of experience in the following:
  1. Managing the full life cycle of the recruitment and selection process.
  2. Managing complex Family and Medical Leave, Worker's Compensation and/or American Disabilities Act cases.
  3. Providing HR customer service to both professional and skilled trade employees.
  4. Creating onboarding plans and educating newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures, and regulations.
  5. Proven experience and proficiency in utilizing HRIS, HCM, and SAP or other payroll/personnel systems as a means to manage Human Resource systems.
  6. Experience in the following areas: worker's compensation, ADA, performance management, onboarding, offboarding, training employees, and/or payroll/timekeeping.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. Ability to operate county vehicles to various locations throughout Fairfax County to attend meetings and provide coverage. Ability to produce organized and legible handwritten, typed/computer generated documents including the use of graphics. Position is generally sedentary. However, it requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
