Networks Development Manager

Iberdrola Renewables International is at the forefront of the development of the renewables industry through pioneering ideas, forward thinking and outstanding innovation. Our ambitious growth plans include onshore windfarms and PV Plants in APAC with our team leading the Group’s international onshore development.

The Networks Development Manager is a critical role within the Onshore Renewables Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale onshore wind, solar and storage projects in APAC.

Working together with the development and engineering specialists, this role will be responsible for locating the most suitable connection points, assessing the access standards, risks, relationship with engineering / design of the electrical infrastructure, responsible for defining and implementing robust and cost-effective engineering, managing contracts, securing approvals for connection, negotiating with transmission companies and system operators and define the company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

Responsibilities

  • Be the connection expert in any engagement with partners in joint developments / joint ventures
  • Review technical progress by Contractors or partners, chasing optimization of their proposals.
  • Provide expert advice on appropriate program strategies / engineering strategies / risk levels and grid interface agreements relative to a multi-million-dollar, multi-disciplinary, multi-contract work package, to ensure that cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood by the project.
  • Obtain connection access for pipeline projects
  • Conduct, with or without external support (subject to specific features in the market) curtailment, constraint assessments and propose mitigation measures
  • Ensure that all assessment, advice, and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.
  • Provide professional leadership and direction to team members, potentially comprising employees spread across the country, to ensure professional standards are maintained (or enhanced) and the team delivers a consistent, high-quality, cost-effective service to the projects.

Responsibilities (II)

  • Ensure that health and safety and environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design to ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Be fully aware, informed and up to date of the latest technical developments and identify and assess suitable new that has the potential activities to reduce cost and risk, or improve safety.
  • Lead the implementation of Network onshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices, and quality requirements for large scale onshore windfarm / solar multi-contract work packages to ensure that Networks packages are delivered according to specification, budget and program without compromising safety.
  • Working with the Management team, both development, pre-construction and construction to define the best project, from the connection standards to pre-delivery considerations.
  • Ensure grid code compliance / rules are properly considered in access rights or proposed connection solutions.
  • Work with other centers of technical excellence across the Iberdrola group to support synergistic activities and incorporate lessons learned.

Responsibilities (III)

  • Bring remote interconnection / SCADA considerations according to Iberdrola preferred model for the region.
  • Ensure lessons learnt regarding onshore wind farm / solar development and construction are captured and shared across the different projects.
  • Liaise with the relevant stakeholders like TSOs, DSOs, etc., to ensure Iberdrola position is clear and sufficiently explained in any claim or technical request.

Participate in industry working groups to improve regulation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, related field or the equivalent combination of education. Master degree / Chartered Engineering will also be of consideration.
  • 7 years’ experience in the energy industry, in Network designs and grid connection construction.
  • Experience with development, substations, transmission lines, connection access rights and construction projects
  • Ideally experience in engineering for networks connection of wind / solar / batteries projects.

Languages:

English and Korean (full professional competence)

Spanish and Other Languages will be positively considered.

Skills

Iberdrola Renewables is looking for a proactive peoples’ person, leader and motivator. Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with people at all levels in the organization.

To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Educated to Degree level in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in market specific connection rights, requirements.
  • Ideally experience in Electrical System Studies, Electrical Design, substation design, main equipment specifications (transformers, STATCOM, filters, HV / MV switchgear) and Grid Compliance of wind / solar projects.

Skills (II)

  • Ideally experience in Control and Protection, SCADA and communications.
  • Substantial postgraduate experience with significant experience in a relevant field (transmission, onshore wind / solar preferable).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing and interfacing effectively with cross-functional internal groups of all levels and competencies.
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation associated with renewables construction projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of onshore renewables procedures, standards and guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexible to travel around Vietnam, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Philippines and overseas.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in getting through connection application process with TSOs, DSOs
  • Experience in getting through registration / commissioning process with TSOs, DSOs
  • Experience in Grid Connection engineering
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: substation design, equipment specifications (Transformer, STATCOM, Filters, HV and MV switchgear), single line diagrams, control and protection, SCADA, export cable and overhead lines.
  • Working knowledge of networks design standards and codes (e.g. IEC, ANSII, Grid Codes, etc).
  • Demonstrated success in working with international project teams in diverse and often complex working environments.
  • Deep knowledge on grid regulation and existing rules for connecting new projects.
  • Extensive portfolio of industry contacts.
