The primary responsibility of a Cook is to prepare food to assure that quality food services are provided at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook and serve appetizing meals according to established recipe, quality, and presentation standards.
  • Inspect diet trays; work with the facility’s dietitian and process dietary changes received from Nursing Services.
  • Coordinate food service with other departments.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness and organization by following food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Work with the kitchen team to ensure that all food is prepared and ready at designated serving times.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Ensure that menus are maintained and review menus prior to preparation of food.
  • Assist in serving meals as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred.
  • Must have a Food Handler’s Card.
  • Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Must be knowledgeable of food preparation procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Create and uphold an atmosphere of warmth, patience, enthusiasm, and a calm and cheerful environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Please Note: Effective Oct. 18, 2021, all Avamere employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have an approved medical or religious exception.
