Successfully lead, direct, and coordinate the activities with suppliers.
Direct problem-solving activities resulting from Quality issues.
Develop meaningful relationships with our supplier’s manufacturing plants and Quality staff.
Play an integral role in the leadership of the Company for supplier development as a strategic partner.
Drive continuous improvement through corrective action implementation and lessons learned.
Reports to Director of Quality & Program Management; Chief Metallurgist
OUTCOMES
The Supplier Development Engineer will be responsible for effective QM systems regarding product portfolio, current production programs, and new program launches
Maintaining and improving effective internal and external standards and Customer requirements such as IATF 16949
Support the product, process, and production requirements of externally supplied components, tools, and equipment.
Support searching for, establishing, and developing new suppliers.
Support the continual improvement of existing suppliers.
Plan, support, and implement supplier development programs to identify risk, improve product quality, and optimize throughput.
Conducts supplier-related audits (IATF) on potential and current suppliers to meet requirements utilizing Supplier Assessments, Run-at-Rates, Manufacturing Capability Audits, Control Plan Audits, etc., and take necessary actions as required.
Develop suppliers using core quality tools as they relate to Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA development, Control Plan Development, MSA, SPC, and Control Charts
Applies knowledge of PPAP, SPC, MSA, APQP, GD&T, Six Sigma, Lean, VA/VE, Check Fixtures, Gage R&R, etc
Led PPAP core team to satisfy customers' requirements.
Manages supplier root cause analysis and corrective actions to ensure robust solutions
Participates in cross-functional Risk Assessment meetings and resulting supplier design and feasibility reviews
Team up with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, quality, manufacturing, and customers to harmonize discrepancies in product specifications and evaluate cost reduction or quality improvement opportunities.
Supports the sourcing process by proactively identifying and assessing potential suppliers and participating in internal and external technical reviews with suppliers and engineering.
Monitors supplier performance (incidents, PPMs) and develops/implements effective action plans to improve poor-performing suppliers' Key Qualifications/Requirements.
Implements quality and productivity improvement initiatives for existing suppliers
Supports QEs with open complaints and follows up with the suppliers to ensure root cause has been found and corrective action has been implemented to prevent recurrence and also establish disposition criteria

QUALIFICATIONS
BS of Engineering, Metallurgy or Materials Science
Experience of working in Quality Assurance/supplier quality
5 years of Automotive Experience in Quality Engineering. Previous experience as a supplier quality engineer or supplier development engineer is a plus.
Experience with IATF 16949:2016
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
Travel up to 30 to 50% with targeted area of supplier selection and management.
