Summary: Cleans steel and aluminum fabricated parts prior to the priming / painting operation, applies sheet metal to gate operators as needed and cuts barrier screen to size.

Essential Duties and responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following:

• Completely reviews job traveler and obtains all items to be prepared for priming/painting, including all accessories
• Safely operates crane, walk behind lift, and hand tools to mount operators on bases, gates on skates and stock parts into fixtures or onto racks
• Removes rust, scale, and spatter from metal products with chisel/scraper, wire brush, sanders, grinders, and / or Scotch Brite pads
• Thoroughly cleans and removes all residue such as grease, dirt, oil, weld burns, marker, printing marks, etc., from product using specified chemicals and/or wiping rags, and grinder/sanders as needed
• Fills cavities, holes, and dents with body filler and / or putty to attain smooth surface
• Cuts to size and ensures proper fit-up of barrier screens as required
• Installs tops and caps on gates per job instructions
• Applies adhesion promoter to all plastic parts prior to the priming operation
• Applies masking tape and / or covers over parts and areas that are not to be coated
• Attaches all gate and part tags prior to the priming / painting operation (making tags may be required)
• Records all activities timely and accurately on paperwork and in production software system.
• Ensures prepared gates are inspected and signed off prior to handing off for the priming / painting operation
• Performs interdepartmental QC checks (this includes prepared gates and parts as well as primed / painted gates and parts) if qualified on any parts they did not work on, sign off is required
• Follows daily / weekly department flow sheet or schedule
• Reports supply shortages to appropriate personnel
• Maintains good general housekeeping, a clean and safe work environment free of open containers, wiping rags, empty paint cans, etc.
• Follows all HazMat policies per training received
• Other duties may be assigned

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Education and/or experience:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or three (3) to six (6) months related experience and/or raining in similar environment. OR working toward completion of certificate from an accredited (through the Ohio Department of Education) vocational education program.

Ability to rend and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to read tape measure to 32nds of an inch.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry our detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The person performing this job function is required to wear safety glasses with side shields at any time that are performing any duties in the production area of the shop. The person performing this job function is not required to wear safety shoes but should limit exposure to areas of the shop that are not marked walkways. Open toe shoes or sandals are not permitted in the production areas of the shop.
