Aurora Public Schools is Hiring a Transportation: Driver, Bus Near Aurora, CO

Summary
Responsible for safely transporting students and patrons to and from schools, activity trips and other special events in accordance with federal, state, municipal and district regulations policies, and laws. Work with paraeducator when assigned a special needs route.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily 75% Safely operate a vehicle to transport students and patrons to and from school, special events, and activity trips during weekday, weekend, evening, and /or during extended day or weekly hours adhering to federal, state, municipal and District regulations and procedures.. Read route directions and maps as needed. Maintain student control and discipline that ensures the safety of all vehicle passengers and issue written discipline reports as needed. Monitor passengers for any medical or behavioral problems, administer First Aid and issue written reports as required. Aid in loading and unloading of passengers via the stairs or lift mechanisms including securing wheelchairs mobility aids, oxygen bottles, safety vests or other restraining devices , seat belts, Child Safety Restraint Systems (CDRS), band and athletic equipment or luggage as dictated by route assignment and need. Complete student checks to insure that students are not inadvertently left on a vehicle by using electronic equipment.

Daily 10% Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the assigned vehicle, using electronic inspection equipment including examining the engine compartment, testing brakes and inspecting the chassis, interior and exterior of the bus. Report damage and malfunctions as required by District policies and procedures. Fuel, service, clean, and stock district vehicles in accordance with District, state, and federal regulations and policies.
Daily 4% Follow route directions, coordinate and maintain accurate descriptions of student stop locations, and times with Departmental Schedulers. Update Special Needs emergency procedures and Special Needs student health plans.

Daily 4% Communicate with Scheduler/Dispatcher, other District departments, parents, students and schools in person, via a two-way radio, telephone and E-mail to accommodate any route changes, student issues, and special requests.
Daily 3% Report and document all accidents, incidents, behavior problems and issues as dictated by District policies and procedures.

Mnthly 1% Attend training classes as required by route assignment, District, state and federal regulations and policies.
Daily 1% Trains students, patrons and designated staff on proper emergency actions in case of bus emergency.

Daily 2% Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized courses or successful self study in commercial driving necessary to obtain a BP2S commercial driver's license (CDL) permit including required written tests prior to hire. Must complete additional courses and driving test within three weeks after hire to obtain a valid BP2S CDL.
EXPERIENCE:

Five years of experience operating a motor vehicle is required. Bus driving experience is preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Basic ability to read and write, basic mathematical functions and basic computer skills. Ability to tell time and work with children with various backgrounds and abilities. Operating knowledge of and experience with operating motor vehicles. Operating knowledge of school bus, school bus emergency equipment, knowledge of the use of safety vest and other adaptive restraint systems, wheelchair lifts and tie downs required upon completing District training.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Commercial driver's license (CDL) permit, completion of First Aid certification as determined by the Colorado Department of Education within 90 days after hire. . Must complete additional CDL courses and driving test within three weeks after hire to obtain a valid BP2S CDL. Employee will be required to drive one or more District vehicles. Employee must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District insurance policy.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This job has no formal supervisory responsibilities; however, this position does supervise the safety, behavior and well-being of students and patrons while in route. Acts as a technical resource and mentor for new drivers, including training, demonstrating, and answering questions.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS:

High exposure to self and others to repetitive motion injuries due to operating a vehicle. Medium exposure to bruises and fractured bones due to falling or bumping into objects; to cuts due to sharp objects; and to hernia due to lifting students or equipment. Low exposure to self to cuts, bruises, fractured bones, chemical and heat burns, loss of sight, loss of limb, disfigurement or fatality due to vehicle accidents; to chemical burns due to working with chemicals and diesel fuel; to heat burns due to hot engine or exhaust pipe; and to disease due to handling bodily fluids. A person in this position may also expose others to cuts, bruises, fractured bones, chemical and heat burns, loss of sight, loss of limb, disfigurement or fatality due to vehicle accidents; to chemical burns due to improperly handling chemicals and diesel fuel; and to disease due to improperly handling or disposing of bodily fluids.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, use interpersonal skills and negotiate. The employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, evaluate and compile. The employee is occasionally required to coordinate, copy, instruct, compute and synthesize.
