Augusta-Richmond County is Hiring a Building Maintenance Worker Near Augusta, GA

Performs routine troubleshooting, maintenance and repair to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, security systems, and other county facilities. Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or other designated person and works with co-workers to provide skilled maintenance and repair services. Position will require being on call for work after hours and on weekends.
  • Assists skilled trades person(s) with various maintenance related tasks; addresses immediate operational and/or safety concerns; ensures materials, tools, and needed equipment are maintained in good working order and available when needed.
  • Assists in maintaining the supply inventory; prepares materials list for assigned projects and needed tools; contributes to ensure a clean and safe shop area and work zone.
  • Assists with HVAC, groundskeeper, and general maintenance tasks when necessary. Accurately details work production via assigned work order reports. Provides project details (completed / in progress) in a timely fashion to assigned supervisor.
Minimum Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance of residential or commercial properties.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC repair methods and standards.
  • Familiarity with standard practices, tools, terminology and safety practices of the trade.
  • Mastery of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Licensing: Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. ***This position requires driving a county vehicle.***
  • Flexibility in schedule to be on call weekends and nights.
  • This position involves working in a secure facility. Employee shall meet and maintain security requirements set by the Sheriff's Department.

  • Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
  • Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents.
