Atwell is Hiring a Certified Payroll Specialist Near Southfield, MI

The Certified Payroll Specialist works with our corporate payroll teams, as well as our subcontractors and vendors, to compile and audit weekly reporting of payroll-related date for the Company’s government funded clients. In this role, an employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency with the essential functions of the job found below.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain employee payroll reporting:
    • Aggregate payroll data from the Company and its subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and other parties working on our client sites.
    • Proactively verify data for accuracy 
  • Ensure reporting compliance:
    • Complete the Department of Labor Form WH-347 (or equivalent) on a timely basis. Reconcile and audit data provided by others.
    • Ensure compliance with the Davis-Bacon Act. Understand and document the occupational classification of all employees on our client sites. Maintain documentation of current wage determinations.
    • Resolve any discrepancies.
  • Record retention:
    • Develop and maintain all records in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
    • Develop certified payroll procedures manual.
  • Other accounting tasks:
    • Maintain records related to indirect overhead allocation calculations. Work with outside auditors to update annually.
    • Assist with other reporting or compliance tasks on federally funded clients as those arise.
    • Assist the corporate services team with other accounting tasks as time permits. Not limited to, but includes payroll process, expense report processing and vendor accounts payable.
  • Provide payroll information:
    • Answer questions and requests from staff.
    • Consult with ADP as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality:
    • Manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ensure product quality and Atwell reputation:
    • Follow established accounting standards.
    • Achieve performance objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or higher in accounting or a related field; OR equivalent experience.
  • 1-5 years of experience
  • A combination of formal training and professional experience.
  • Knowledge of ADP or similar payroll systems, Microsoft Word & Excel, and Vision.
