Our non-profit law firm represents low-income persons in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law.
Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Advocacy, the Housing Advocacy Manager sets a vision and priorities for Legal Aid’s work and devises strategic advocacy campaigns in areas of law affecting housing (primarily landlord/tenant issues) using a variety of tools including impact litigation, individual representation, policy advocacy, and community education; translates the vision and priorities into tactical plans and decisions including annual planning for impact litigation, individual representation and policy advocacy; identifies and supports other impact advocacy (consumer, family and public benefits law); builds, grows and directs Legal Aid’s economic and racial justice efforts by creating partnerships with and taking cues from impacted individuals and community groups; builds and maintains relationships with members of the bench and bar, agency heads and elected officials.
  • The Housing Advocacy Manager also acts as lead counsel, co-counsel or leads litigation teams; coordinates and advises on impact and complex litigation projects; mentors attorneys on legal strategy, litigation and policy advocacy campaigns; supports Legal Aid’s task forces (housing, consumer, family and public benefits law); ensures that Legal Aid’s internal legal research materials are up-to-date and accessible to staff; serves as a spokesperson for Legal Aid at press conferences and other media events; presents at or attends national and local conferences and events; works in coalition and partnership with other legal, non-profit, and community-based advocacy organizations.
Qualifications:
  • A Georgia bar license or eligibility for the next Georgia bar exam, a minimum of 5 years litigation experience including planning, coordinating, and leading litigation and advocacy.
  • Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, be detail oriented, able to set priorities and meet deadlines, be accountable for time and work product, able to work in a team and alone, and have an appreciation for diversity.
Salary and Benefits:
  • The salary is $65,100 depending on experience, plus a $2,000 annual manager stipend. Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale.
  • The program provides generous fringe benefits including 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses.
  • Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
Application Requirements: Submit a letter of interest; resume; writing sample (advice letter, legal memorandum or brief); official law school transcript (a copy is acceptable pending your order of an official transcript); and the names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of three professional references (preferably individuals who have supervised or managed your work) as one (1) PDF using our online application system at atlantalegalaid.org/jobs.
