Astound Broadband is hiring for a Broadband Network Fiber Technician in Wilsonville, OR. This position will be responsible, under close supervision, to repair, maintain, test, proof or adjust as needed all fiber optic cables and related equipment in coordination with the Construction and Operations Team.

Ensure maximum quality and peak performance and reliability of all fiber optic PON equipment. Respond to fiber damage events, perform splicing repairs of fiber optic cables, and report all information concerning damages.

This position will be based in Astounds Wilsonville, OR office

A Day in the Life of the Broadband Network Fiber Technician :

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Conduct fiber splicing, testing, and activation on small / medium construction projects such as residential PON FTTH deployments, SMB fiber lateral builds and HFC node splits.
  • Coordinate fiber maintenance related activities for OLT activations, FTTH terminals, HFC nodes, commercial activations, and MDU customers.
  • Repair any problems affecting fiber or fiber related equipment.
  • Assure proper alignment of the optical path and light levels between the Hub and the OLT (forward and return setup) including but not limited to transmitters, receivers, power supplies, and overall network health.
  • Measure and record performance characteristics of outside plant with electronic equipment such as OTDR, Fusion Splicers and other related equipment.
  • Perform and / or coordinate with other functions including Field Operations and Maintenance all testing of fiber network.
  • Build in the appropriate location all mandatory tracking documents for fibers / circuits and activate new nodes as required by new build construction or through segmentation work.
  • Operate highly specialized test and fiber optic splicing equipment.
  • Provide onsite repair, installation, and servicing of optic hardware up to the fiber optic patch panel with the ability to identify and resolves performance problems onsite.
  • Perform investigation and repair of cut fiber optic cables or impairments, reporting all information concerning damages to supervisor.
  • Splice fiber optic cables and splice cases with a thorough knowledge of standards, materials and techniques utilizing single and mass fusion splicing equipment.
  • Complete and report all splicing and testing documentation to the local design team.
  • Complete certification testing of fiber optic links.
  • Communicate with Project Manager, Construction Coordinator, or designated supervisor regarding concerns about construction progress.
  • Provide training to field staff to assist operations in employee development.
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Know, understand and follow company policies.

What You Bring to the Table :

  • Proven understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter
  • Travel will be required across CA, OR, and WA as needed
  • Prior experience as Broadband Network Technician, Fiber Splicer or 10 years OSP experience in communications construction and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced understanding of access networks on various fiber architectures.
  • Experience with fiber to the home (FTTH) and HFC network design and construction methods
  • Solid knowledge in OSP construction methods and practices
  • Knowledgeable experience with Microsoft Office Suite, OSP Insight, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, Smartsheet's and other various support software.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

Education and Certifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as Broadband Network Technician, Fiber Splicer or 10 years OSP experience in communications construction and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.

The base salary range in Oregon for this position, plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable, is :

  • Broadband Network Fiber Technician I - $18.59 - $25.00 per hour
  • Broadband Network Fiber Technician II - $21.91 - $28.00 per hour
  • Broadband Network Fiber Technician III - $24.28 - $39.00 per hour
