ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Senior Electrical Engineer technically directs an electrical engineering team of Engineers and Electrical Design Technicians to provide electrical engineer-to-order (ETO) and new product development (NPD) design for asphalt plants, soil remediation equipment, concrete plants, aggregate plants, other industrial products, component retrofit projects (where electrical components are affected), and controls systems upgrades and/or retrofits. As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team, executes cost effective product, process, and technical procurement assistance for improvement strategies. Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and oversight to all electrical stakeholders in the value stream. Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Oversee all ETO and NPD electrical design.
  • Provide clear and concise technical instructions to the electrical engineering team.
  • Ensure that final equipment design is code compliant, cost-effective, and meets customer requirement/expectation.
  • Assist Sales, Project Engineers, and customer with electrical permitting including communications with local electrical inspectors and third-party electrical engineering.
  • Assist Electrical Engineering Manager to support Procurement in technical aspects of component specification and sourcing.
  • Assist Electrical Engineering Manager in maintaining current knowledge of and compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) among all electrical stakeholders.
  • Assist with facilitating UL certification as well as other underwriting certifications to appropriate electrical stakeholders.
  • Assist with identifying electrical components for new products.
  • Determine and/or oversee determination of cable lengths and cable routes.
  • Examines engineering drawings, blueprints, orders, and other documentation for conformance to established criteria regarding materials, parts and equipment specified and initiates requests for changes to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Prepares and maintains manual or computerized record systems providing detailed parts information such as complete description, quantities, operational characteristics, functions and specifications.
  • Follows and monitors internal design standards within electrical engineering groups and subgroups ensuring accuracy of the Bill of Material (BOM) and BOM structure on drawings and for ERP compatibility.
  • Composes and maintains release procedures.
  • Maintains engineering change log.
  • Compiles and approves all engineering changes after reviewing the changes for their impact on manufacturing, inventory, purchasing, service, manuals, materials, procedures, fixtures, routings, bill of materials, cost, product liability, etc.
  • Creates, copies, and provides engineering forms to engineering personnel as needed.
  • Creates and maintains engineering files.
  • Makes recommendations to management and coordinates implementation of new procedures and methodology.
  • Trains technical support staff and less experienced engineers in company engineering procedures as requested.
  • Monitors and approves time sheets and attendance for subordinate engineering personnel.
  • Knowledgeable on all Astec products, processes, methods, procedures and requirements.
  • Projects a positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays a professional attitude; complies with company dress code.
  • Communicates with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Documents assigned tasks as required.
  • Performs work according to production schedule and/or supervisor's directives.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field required.
  • 8 years of progressive leadership role in Electrical Engineering related fields
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to generate electrical design drawings.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of engineering drawing.
  • Blueprint reading skills required.
  • Knowledge of engineering systems of symbols, legends, shadings and lines required.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Ability to work satisfactorily as a team member and communicate with all levels within the company.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to handle sudden changes in project/priority and multiple tasks simultaneously in a positive fashion.
  • Ability to set, adjust and change daily priorities.
  • Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues in the most positive fashion for all parties concerned.
