About us

The Association of Test Preparation, Admissions, and Private Tutoring is a national non-profit consortium of independent local tutoring and education firms. Our chapter in Norfolk, VA, is hiring several tutors for Grades 6-12 Science instruction.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with students in grades 6-12 in a classroom setting.

Position: Classroom Lead - ELA

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Work with children at a local school as a lead instructor
  • Read, understand, and assist in implementing, recording, and monitoring students’ individual education plans.
  • Assist with the implementation, recording, and monitoring of students’ behavior management programs.
  • Communicate and engage with students and school staff in a friendly, effective, and professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records/information.
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Model and reinforce positive and age-appropriate social behavior when applicable to specific categorical programs/classrooms.
  • Follow company and partner district guidelines for appropriate procedures based on the School Health Handbook.
  • Assist with use of equipment needed to meet instructional needs (e.g., braces, PAL machines, auditory trainers, speech devices, computers, typewriters, magnifiers, braille writers, closed circuit television systems) when applicable to specific categorical programs/classrooms.
  • Assist with paperwork and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with the operation, use, and maintenance of classroom materials and equipment.
  • Complete all training and compliance requirements as assigned by designated deadlines. Bridge communications between students and teachers regarding specific course content.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Willingness and aptitude to work with students in a classroom setting. .
  • Willingness to attend district partner’s in-service programs for professional growth and adhere to guidance provided during trainings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to instruct grades 6-12 sciences.
  • Strong ability to work both independently with little supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for helping students succeed. Additionally, you will need to have the following:

  • Hold an Bachelor's Degree or equivalent college credit (i.e., 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours).
  • Have a state teaching certification or be able to qualify for a provisional certification.
  • Be local to the area and able to reliably commute to your assigned work site(s) .

Hours

  • Regular schedule
  • Weekdays during school hours
  • 7.5 hrs/day

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 7.5 – 37.5 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
