Position Description:

Location: 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Full Time: Exempt

For over a century Associated Humane Societies have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the LARGEST animal sheltering system in the state of New Jersey. We operate three shelters located in Newark, Tinton Falls and Forked River. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly-exotic animals, birds, farm animals and wildlife (both domestic and exotic).

AHS is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic Executive Director to oversee the strategic, programmatic, and financial management of our wildlife and farm animal sanctuary, Popcorn Park, as well as our connected animal shelter in Forked River, New Jersey. This individual will provide oversight of all refuge and shelter operations including all animal care and medical coordination, designing, and implementing strategies to generate funding for operations, programs, special/capital projects and any other support needs for Popcorn Park and the shelter. This individual will be responsible for the management & leadership of 60 staff members, 150 shelter animals and 215 refuge animals. This role serves as the primary organization liaison between the entire team for both the Refuge and our domestic rescue operation in Forked River.

· Manage day-to-day refuge and shelter operations while also focusing on long-term objectives. Implement and modify strategic plans that support AHS’s mission, vision, and goals, and implement organizational strategies that work toward sustainability and growth.

· Provide oversight of all operations, including direct supervision of all

· refuge and Shelter staff.

· Develop and implement community outreach initiatives with an specific emphasis on Humane Education.

· Implement personnel policies and conduct performance evaluations on a yearly basis while providing day to day coaching and counseling.

· Provide support, reports, tools, and guidance to the organization.

· Prepare monthly Executive Director report to be submitted to CEO.

· Prepare reports for the board as needed including financial analysis of fundraising projects, campaigns, and events.

· Provide leadership in recruitment, onboarding, and development, working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief People Officer to ensure successful performance and a mutually rewarding experience for all.

· Work with AHS leadership to identify needs that should be funded and work with the CEO and Board of Directors to prioritize and select areas/projects to support.

· Provide general project management and/or coordinate with the designated project manager for Popcorn Park projects.

· Work with AHS’ CEO to establish timelines, milestones, and clear communication paths to ensure that projects are finished in a timely fashion and that donor communications are consistent and clear.

· Negotiate, manage, and monitor contracts to ensure obligations are being fulfilled in a timely manner.

· Create, Implement & Oversee responsible management of $4 Million Dollar Operating Budget.

· Oversee implementation in coordination with the Director of Marketing of all Popcorn Park marketing and communication including campaign materials, direct mail and electronic appeals, special promotions, foundation web pages and the Annual Report.

· Provide support and direction to AHS’s communications team, collaborating on content, campaigns, and relevant messaging.

· Help facilitate planning, implementation and communication regarding events and programs that are collaborative efforts.

· Exceptional leadership skills, strategic judgment, and creative vision.

· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

· Ability to guide, train and lead staff and board members in the appropriate development areas needed for success.

· Experience with and understanding of fundraising strategies – including how to ask donors for major gifts – and ability to facilitate teamwork that supports diverse fundraising efforts.

· Ability to mobilize others to fulfill the mission and vision of the organization with passion and optimism.

· Strong ability to build a positive culture that supports AHS’ Mission, Vision & Values

· Ability to plan and oversee donor and fundraising events.

· Ability to identify, cultivate, acquire, and steward gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations.

· Experience with developing and following a budget and managing organizational financial resources.

· Ability to self-energize and to self-assess and seek to learn areas of the job that may require training and study to master.

· Knowledge of the social, philanthropic, and business leadership of New Jersey. Ideally 5 years’ experience working on successful fundraising programs in a non-profit organization-preferably in animal welfare/rescue.

· Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

· A strong love and caring of all animals and a desire to help them.
