NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK: To develop, oversee, and administer a comprehensive program of studies to promote the academicachievement and technical skill attainment of all students and to ensure the efficient operation of the highschool's daily operations. Our students balance a rigorous course of academic studies that includes honors,advanced placement, and dual enrollment options with technical education in one of 16 career majors. ThePrincipal provides leadership for the High School Administrative Team which includes the AssistantPrincipal(s), the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, the Director of Special Education, the Director ofAcademics and Title I Services, the Director of CTE Programs, and the Assistant Director of CTE Programs.In addition, the Principal works closely and collaboratively with the Central Administrative Team including allpreviously mentioned, and also includes the Director of Facilities, Director of Educational Technology andDigital Literacy, Director of Food Services, Director of Community Education, Director of BusinessOperations, and the Superintendent-Director.QUALITIES: The Principal has the responsibility to enforce statutory regulations, school policies, rules, and procedureswherever administrative action is required while in the performance of his/her duties.The Principal will be a well-organized, thoughtful leader committed to working with people to develop aneducational program of the highest standards; and who is a team player who solicits and respects the openness of staff, parents, and others concerned with theschool; is an individual with integrity, credibility, intelligence, honesty, and a wholesome sense of humor; is a person with a high energy level who is able to inspire, motivate, and instill excitement in others; has a strong commitment to meaningful professional development opportunities for all staff; has a strong commitment to academic and vocational excellence.Major Responsibilities: Serve as the instructional leader for day programs and infuse a cooperative commitment to thegoals/mission of the school with faculty/staff, students, parents, and all community stakeholders. Fosters and maintains an environment where all employees, students, families, and communitymembers feel valued and respected.
Delivers important information to the school community through regular communications. Collaborates on the development and monitors the high school budget, oversees and manages allstudent activity accounts, oversees the allocation of resources to programs, including grant fundingoversight and implementation within the high school, and adheres to all district policies and practicesas they relate to purchases and expenditures. Oversees and directs the supervision and evaluation of the faculty and staff, and makesrecommendations to the Superintendent regarding the status of all staff members with regard toreappointment and award of salary increases. Oversees and directs employee orientation and staff induction, mentoring, and professionaldevelopment programs.
Organize, direct, and evaluate all high school instruction and operations to maintain the efficientorganization and quality of instruction at the school in such a manner that it will meet all state andregional accreditation standards. Ensures that instructional practices, organizational policies and procedures, and interpersonalcommunications consider the cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity of staff, students,families, and community partners. Oversees the assignment of teachers and substitutes to ensure adequate supervision and instructionof students. Regularly attends student activities and events on weekdays/nights and/or weekend days/weekendnights.
Attends all school committee and appropriate subcommittee meetings and provides reports, asrequested. Works with the data analyst to compile, analyze, and report data related to student achievement,discipline, attendance, cooperative education, etc. Engages administrators, faculty, staff, students, families, and community members in thedevelopment and execution of the school improvement plan. Collaborates with the Superintendent in developing and executing the district's long-term strategicplan.
Works to increase family engagement through the school council, family engagement events,volunteer opportunities, and regular communications. Leads the development of schoolwide safety policies, plans, procedures, and practices and ensurescompliance with mandated safety drills, including drills with local, state, and national agencies.. Works in coordination with the Human Resources Specialist and Administration to engage inequitable recruitment and hiring processes and makes recommendations to theSuperintendent-Director for appointment of high school administrators, faculty, and staff. Provide input/feedback into the development of admissions and vocational program placementpolicies in collaboration with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Administration.
Supervises and directs the Assistant Principal(s) to maintain student behavior. Supervises and directs the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Administrators, school counselors,and faculty/staff to coordinate and present a student orientation program for all new students. Prepares the student handbook for annual review and approval by the Superintendent-Director andSchool Committee and enforces its regulations. Designs and directs procedures and maintains records of daily student attendance and oversees theprogram for addressing chronic absenteeism.
Coordinates with the Administration to organize and direct all phases of the high school graduationceremony. Oversees and directs the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Director of Academics and Title IServices, Director of Special Education, and Director(s) of CTE Programs in planning and conductingstudent recognition events throughout the year. Oversees the Administration in planning and conducting events for graduating seniors, includingscholarships, tool scholarships, Senior Sign-Out, and commencement exercises. Works in collaboration with the Director of Facilities and Director of Community Education for externalConferences and Events requests to maintain the high school facilities and inventory.
Maintains appropriate and accurate records as required by statute, policy, or administrative directives. Administers all functions of the school and its programs in accordance with applicable laws,regulations, local ordinances, and district policies and procedures. Implements administrator assignments in a manner that promotes maximum efficiency and prioritizesa focus on teaching and learning. Remains professionally current through readings, visitations, conferences, university programs, andprofessional organizations.
Works collaboratively with the Superintendent and administrators to effectively oversee andadminister the program of academic and vocational instruction at the high school. Expresses a collaborative vision of leadership with the Superintendent, and all administrators, faculty,and staff. Attend events to promote the school district and its programs. All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent-Director.
