Asphalt Green is looking to hire experienced Adaptive Sports Instructors (2-3) for our Upper East Side (UES) and Battery Park City (BPC) locations for the 2023-2024 school year. Under the direction of our Director of Adaptive Programming, instructors will lead movement classes and multi-sport programming for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
If you are an experienced teacher or coach who has worked with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, this might be the part-time role for you. The schedule is expected to be as follows:
· March – June 2024
· Weekday time range is approximately between 10:00a-6:00p
o Opportunity for only school day (8am-3pm), afterschool (3-6pm) hours, and/or weekend hours
· Approximately 6-10 hours per week, with opportunities for additional responsibilities & hours
The program’s purpose is to build confidence by introducing and reinforcing fundamental movement, sports and fitness experiences to students of varying skill levels and abilities. For more information on Asphalt Green, please see the following: www.asphaltgreen.org.
Responsibilities:
· Plans and delivers multi-sensory lessons and sessions that are appropriate for different ability levels
· Communicates expectations to students at the onset of each session
· Collaborates with group’s therapists and teachers to lead integrated sessions
· Establishes a safe learning environment creating structure and support during transitions
· Maintains clear class procedures and rules
· Provides consistent positive feedback to students throughout the session
· Knows and implements students’ behavioral goals
· Working with therapists and teachers, manages behaviors as they arise
· Documents behavioral situations and informs necessary parties
