FINANCE MANAGER AND CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE:

Supervised by the Executive Director, the Finance Manager and Controller is integral to the
Aslan Foundation team. The Finance Manager and Controller supports the Aslan Foundation in its mission to preserve and enhance the natural beauty and cultural assets of Knoxville, and enrich the quality of life for the people who live there. The Foundation is a catalyst for progress, advancing the quality, beauty, livability, and sustainability of the Knoxville community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Finance Manager and Controller of the Aslan Foundation fall into several mutually reinforcing categories:

FINANCIAL CONTROLS AND BUDGETING:

  • Follow the Financial Procedures Manual as well as establish new procedures to effectively steward the Foundation’s financial assets.
  • Be accountable for the soundness of the Foundation's finances, including its budgets, control and audit functions, licenses, and tax filings.
  • Create internal financial reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Create financial models and budgets as needed.
  • Reinforce financial and human resources data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary

BOOKKEEPING ACCORDING TO GAAP STANDARDS:

  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, disbursements, and deposits.
  • Manage account reconciliations.
  • Manage payroll, payroll taxes, employee benefits, IRA administration, and process w-2s and 1099s.
  • Act as a liaison with outside CPAs for federal and state tax filings and audit.
  • Act as a liaison with investment managers.
  • Oversee construction change orders and pay applications.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage human resources paperwork.
  • Act as a liaison with insurance company.
  • Maintain fixed asset inventory database and business licenses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Accounting designation or an equivalent combination of related experience.
  • Minimum 4 years accounting experience in a mid or senior level accounting or financial management role.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and GAAP
  • Extensive experience with QuickBooks, Excel, and Numbers
  • Interest in and passion for charitable causes. Nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mac proficient.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required as well as an interest in working in a small office environment.
  • Pro-active and self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
