JOB SUMMARY:

A director of training education spearhead and oversees the training programs of dental student externship and Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency programs

Essential Job Functions

  • Practice all aspects of general dentistry including: Preventive care, Diagnosis and treatment plan, Restorative dentistry, Oral surgery, Pediatric dentistry, Periodontics, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, both fixed and removable
  • Maintains complete and legible records of treatment and signs off all chart entries of residents and students in a timely manner.
  • Follows clinic protocols; assist in establishing and enforcing various protocols, maintaining high quality of service, and complying with OSHA guidelines and AHS health and safety measures.
  • Participates in peer review and chart audit process as appropriate and needed, including chart audits for residents
  • Works with Chief Dental Officer and Associate Chief Dental Officer to develop a quality assurance program for residency and student externship programs, to insure the quality of care and clinical experiences meet CODA standards. 
  • Must maintain credentialing requirements with all AHS-affiliated academic institutions and provide supervision to students/residents 
  • Assists CDO Senior Dental Operations Manager to insure the credentialing of all supervising faculty is up to date
  • Must comply with annual screening and/or vaccination for health care personnel 
  • Possesses ability and willingness to change work schedule or float between locations to meet the need of the clinic including after-hour call rotation
  • Follows HR protocols including but not limited to keeping all licenses, CE and certification current, evidence of good health including TB annual test or questionnaire, mandatory vaccines as indicated
  •  Participates in after-hour call rotation.
  • Assists with clinic coverage with advance notice of leave and fill in including Saturday clinic, if needed. 
  • Provides orientation and in-service training to student externs and residents 
  • Takes the lead in observing professional ethics and standards of work and service.
  • Maintains effective working relationship with patients, students, residents, dental staff, and other agency personnel.
  • Participates in community outreach activities as appropriate and if required.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.
  • Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.
  • Assists the CDO in setting goals for the educational programs, managing budgets, establishing timelines, coordinating with experts in developing curricula, and serving as liaison with internal and external parties, building positive relationships along the way.
  • Conduct research to identify students’ and residents ’needs and ways to meet them, in collaboration with CDO.
  • Perform assessments to determine the weaknesses and strengths of existing procedures, and develop strategies to optimize training services. 
  • Leads and manages staff while implementing company policies and standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with educational and accreditation standards.
  • Attend meetings/conferences as appropriate, such as THC conferences, accreditation conferences as required. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid California license
  • Current DEA registration
  • Current CPR certification
  • AEGD or GPR residency
  • Must meet all CME requirements of the State of California
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of professional experience 
  • Teaching experience 
  • Possesses good knowledge of CODA accreditation process 
General Agency/AHS Duties
  • Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
  • Enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of client confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules, to ensure that the principles of AHS are implemented.
  • Plays an active role in planning organization-wide activities such as AHS general membership meetings, fundraisers, special clinic days, and other events.
  • Participates in general membership meetings, fundraisers, and other public events, as required.
  • Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
  • Attends AHS staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as required.
  • Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and push up to 100 lbs (on wheels).
  • Must have vision adequate to read X-rays, charts, and other clinic documents.
  • Must have high manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, bend, squat and sit, stand and twist/turn
  • May be exposed to contagious/infectious diseases
