The North Carolina certified Paramedic functions and plays an integral role as a part of the clinical patient care team in the Emergency Department (ED) under the direction/supervision of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director or Medical Oversight (e.g., ED physician or Licensed Independent Practioner, LIP) delivering the highest quality of compassionate patient care. The Paramedic operates within the defined scope of practice as defined by the Medical Director and North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS) safely providing direct and indirect patient care (adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and CMS guidelines), observation, specified treatment and procedures while maintaining personal safety as well as effectively collecting and communicating pertinent data, physical, clinical and psychosocial findings within the patient care team including, but not limited to, nursing and LIPs. Performs all work with accordance to the mission, visions, and values of Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH).

Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations i.e. flu shot, etc. 

License/Certifications:

• Current North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certification
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification
• ACLS certification
• PALS certification
• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or trauma equivalent certification (preferred)

Experience: 

• Minimum of 1 year recent experience as North Carolina certified EMT-Paramedic

Shift:

• Varies/Rotates: up to 29 hours per week

Working Conditions: 

• Ability to lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds, moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds
• Visual and hearing ability for patient care activities
• General indoor conditions, exposure to below 72 degree temperatures
• Repetitive motion: typing
• Sitting for long periods, up to 8 hours
• Noise: light noise to moderate noise
• Fine motor skills
• Visual acuity
• Because patients need round-the-clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends and holidays
• Clinical staff spends considerable time walking, bending, stretching and standing
• Assist in patient transfers, so they must follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury
• Good verbal and written communication skills necessary for job requirements
