This is a unique opportunity to work directly with children living with developmental disabilities and/or ASD and their families. The skills trainer will be focused on building skills needed to live independently and safely in the community while reducing the risk of residential treatment placement. This position will specifically support a young man both in an out of the home build skills in social/public settings while also expanding on existing IADLs in the home. This individual uses a Proloquo2 AAC device as primary means of communication with understanding of some ASL signs.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 supports with significant consideration to sensory sensitivities
• Facilitate productive play activities to teach and reinforce skills development
• Teaching and supporting individuals both in the home and in the community with ADLs and IADLs (examples include but are not limited to: transportation, using technology, money management, hygiene tasks, and laundry)
• Supports individuals to access community resources and participate in group activities
• Serve as an advocate for individuals and families at various community levels
• Support individuals and families to participate in social and recreational activities that encourage networking, formation of natural supports and peer support.
• Coordinate and work collaboratively with other service providers and family as needed to implement treatment planning objectives
• Job must be conducted at all times in a way that respects the rights, privacy and the dignity of the client and adheres to all contractual regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• A high School Diploma or HiSet is required
• At least 1 year experience in ABA field strongly preferred
• BCBA or ABA certification highly preferred
• Some familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL) strongly preferred
• Familiarity with concepts related to neurodiversity strongly preferred
• Strong professional boundaries
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment with community based human service professionals and staff.
• Flexibility to meet schedule needs of individuals and families
• Valid Driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance is required to transport clients throughout the community.
