JOB DESCRIPTION

Ascent Vascular Specialists and Vein Center, PLLC.

JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse (RN)

FLSA STATUS: Hourly (Non-exempt)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists in the daily running of the medical practice and procedures related to vascular healthcare and patient management.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED required. Minimum completion of two year associates degree in nursing.

CREDENTIALS: RN License; BLS certification

EXPERIENCE: Highly prefer minimum of three years of work experience. Appropriate education may be substituted for experience. Will consider other combinations of work experience and settings.

JOB RELATIONS: Supervises other personnel in Surgeons/Owners absence. Reports directly to Surgeon/Owner.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in a fast-paced, well-lit, comfort-controlled medical office. High traffic area. Work may be stressful. Interaction with others may be constant and interruptive. Frequent exposure to communicable disease, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires handling and moving patients. Involves substantial standing and walking. Possess the ability to respond to telephone/paging contacts.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

a) Ability and knowledge to perform medical care.

b) Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.

c) Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.

d) Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

e) Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.

f) Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

g) Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.

h) Competence in taking vital signs.

i) Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.

j) Proficiency in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.

k) Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians, patients, employees, and the public.

l) Capability to direct daily office operations.

m) Possess good written and verbal communication skills.

n) Able to always present a professional image.

o) Ability to perform detailed and accurate work.

p) Utilize time management skills.

q) Answer telephone in a professional manner with effective patient triage and concern resolution.

r) Read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.

s) Recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors.

t) Maintain productivity and work independently.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1) Responsible for assisting the physician in the care of patients to assure optimal medical care.

a) Keeps appointments flowing smoothly to assure all patients are seen timely, and the physician's time is well-managed

b) Posts daily patient schedule and keeps physician informed of appointments

c) Greets and escorts patient to treatment room in absence of medical assistant

d) Take and/or update patient's history as appropriate. This includes but not limited to any complaint, family history, and drug allergies

e) Retrieves medical record for physician.

f) Prepares (as trained) patients for vascular exam/procedures

g) Assists (as trained) physician in exam/procedure(s).

*h) Responsible for patient education:

- distributes pamphlets and samples

- gives care instructions verbally

- provides instruction sheets

- answers patient's questions

- provides smoking cessation, health maintenance information

*i) Gives injections/local anesthesia

*j) Applies dressing changes and performs suture/staple removals

k) Promptly responds to any physician request

l) Assists patients with wheelchair/ambulatory concerns

m) Observes sterilization guidelines

n) Prepares exam room for next patient (includes cleaning, stocking, and instruments ready)

o) Responds to emergency situations confidently and professionally

p) After exam/procedures checks chart and charge sheets for accuracy and completeness before directing patients to front desk

q) Assists in scheduling follow-up appointments

*r) Administers IV therapy

*Performs these responsibilities only under a physician's direction.

1) Working with the medical assistant to process surgical instruments, using the ultrasonic cleaner and autoclave to achieve sterilized instruments, safe for surgical procedures

a) Keeps Dirty/Clean Sterilization room stocked, organized, and clean

b) Monthly inventories surgical instruments, supplies with re-ordering

c) Assures lab equipment is maintained functional at all times

*d) Maintains laboratory in compliance with CLIA regulations

*1) Responsible for handling by phone or mail questions and requests from patients regarding their medical care.

a) Promptly receives and responds to incoming phone calls/mail

b) Answers questions and requests regarding follow-up care, prescriptions, laboratory results, etc.

c) Documents all questions, requests, and answers as appropriate (in EMR if preferred)

d) Maintains a clean and organized work area

e) Informs doctor of lab work reports and abnormalities

f) Screens calls for physician(s) as appropriate

g) Reviews lab and ultrasound reports with other medical assistants and staff as appropriate.

h) Sends out as appropriate copies of test reports, etc. to patients and their physician(s) as requested

i) Daily provides patient-call notes for transcription

j) Call-in prescriptions to pharmacy

2) Responsible for working with surgery and cath lab schedulers to arrange procedure dates/times

a) Informs patients of procedure information

b) Updates surgeons schedule with added procedures

c) Works toward and obtains pre-authorization for all clinic and hospital-based procedures

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

1) Must attend staff meetings and in-service programs

2) Keeps up-to-date on all pertinent information affecting job and patient care

3) Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

4) Maintains accurate, complete, and timely patient records

5) Verifies low stock/supplies and orders as appropriate

6) Timely checks and puts away stock, supplies, laundry, etc.

7) Charts in medical records as appropriate

8) Monitors sales representatives

9) Filing

10) Responsible for maintaining AED

11) Maintains a clean and safe work area

12) Remains in compliance with OSHA-Bloodborne Pathogen Standard guidelines including universal precautions, personal protective equipment, housekeeping, etc.

13) Remains in compliance with OSHA/Hazardous Communication Standard guidelines and Clinic Laboratory Improvement Act Standards

14) Trains new employees

15) Keeps common areas clean and safe

16) Keeps exam rooms clean and stocked (supplies, pamphlets, etc.)

17) Keeps management timely informed

18) Obtains patient demographic and insurance information as appropriate

19) Maintains OSHA and employee health records

20) Directs office operations in surgeon/owner’s absence

21) Performs other duties as requested

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41.00 - $48.00 per hour
