Job Title : Teacher Assistant (K-6)

Location : Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Reports to : Dean of Grammar School

Work Hours / Days : School days, Monday through Friday, 7 : 10 am-3 : 35 pm.

Involvement in professional development days, work days, and other staff / faculty days will be determined upon hire

Desired Start Date : August 2024

Hourly Wage Range : $ 18.60-$19.60 per hour

Our teacher assistants model good character and assist teachers in phonics-based literacy, Singapore math, and the great ideas and works of history, science, and literature.

We seek candidates with a high standard of excellence, professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with staff members, and a can-do attitude to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be organized, diligent, and devoted to partnering with his / her teacher to help students grow in wisdom and virtue.

This position collaborates directly with his / her assigned lead teacher and reports to the Deans of Grammar school.

Essential Functions :

  • Collaborate directly with the teacher(s) to implement a content-rich classical education by following curriculum guidelines and expectations
  • Substitute teach when teacher is absent (will be compensated at a higher pay rate)
  • Assist with classroom "housekeeping" items such as collecting, organizing, and grading students' work and materials, copying worksheets, distributing materials and items, and keeping a tidy classroom)
  • Build positive relationships with students by checking up on missing work, managing behaviors, executing small group and individual instruction, proctoring tests and evaluations, and meeting all accommodations
  • Assist with daily operations of the school, such as supervision of beginning and end of day routines and procedures, lunch and recess times, and other transitional periods
  • Be respectfully assertive in guiding and mentoring students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates
  • Perform other related duties as directed

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check, as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education

Physical Requirements :

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to teach each child
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing to teach
  • Must be able to supervise outdoors
