Assistant Director - Alternatives, Private Debt Investments

Position Summary: As an Assistant Director in Private Debt Investments, you'll play a pivotal role in conducting pre-investment strategy research, manager due diligence, and post-investment reporting for our Private Debt Fund investment business. This role encompasses various Private Debt Fund strategies and managers.

Essential Duties/Functions:

• Collaborate with the Alternative Head in Tokyo to establish the Private Debt Fund investment platform and philosophy.
• Identify and assess new fund investment opportunities through manager search and selection processes.
• Cultivate relationships with existing and potential investment managers.
• Conduct due diligence and formulate investment recommendations on Private Debt Funds.
• Act as a liaison with Tokyo Offices regarding alternative investment allocations and prepare related investment documents for headquarters.
• Promote ESG investment and implement responsible investment practices through enhanced ESG scoring.
• Prepare regular reporting packages for investors, including Quarterly Reports.
• Participate in and present at Quarterly Report meetings for Private Debt Funds, including Tokyo office members.
• Coordinate negotiations and execution of agreements related to Private Debt Fund investments with external parties.
• Monitor post-investment performance of funds, including meetings with investment managers, annual meeting attendance, and office visits.
• Manage cash flow and other operational issues of Private Debt Funds, including instructions to administrators.
• Assist the Portfolio Manager in developing relationships with new Japanese clients interested in investing in Private Debt Funds.
• Conduct research and investigations as required.
• Manage and maintain data related to underlying funds and companies.
• Undertake miscellaneous projects or duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business/Economics or related field; MBA and/or progress toward CFA designation preferred.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in fund investments, with a focus on Alternative or Credit fund Selection at an institutional investor or related firm.
• Fluency in English required, proficiency in other languages welcomed.
• Proficiency in MS Office software, including advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, financial modeling, and communication skills required.
• Ability to work overtime, as necessary, to accommodate meetings with Japan.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, as needed.
• Must be a flexible team player able to adapt to change.

The expected annual base salary for this position ranges from $115,000 to $130,000. Salary offers are determined based on various factors, including skills, experience, education, certifications, market conditions, and organizational considerations. In addition to salary, successful candidates are eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance.
