The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is currently seeking a proficient Power BI Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in data analysis, report creation, and dashboard development using Microsoft Power BI. Experience in the K12 educational sector and familiarity with educational data will be considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage data collections and elements, ensuring their accurate loading into the Power BI data inventory.
2. Establish guidelines for the creation of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations in line with MSDE's objectives.
3. Conduct detailed data analysis in compliance with MSDE data reporting standards.
4. Design and implement complex reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for both internal and external stakeholders.
5. Create and maintain a report archive for historical referencing, ensuring secure storage and retention.
6. Develop report and dashboard templates that align with MSDE branding initiatives.
7. Analyze and transform data from various sources to meet end-user requirements, both business and technical.
8. Ensure the integrity of data uploaded to Power BI through rigorous data validation processes.
9. Uphold the highest standards of data accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
10. Conduct data quality checks to verify the precision of the data.
11. Provide comprehensive weekly status reports outlining completed tasks, planned activities, and any potential risks or issues.
12. Engage in additional duties as necessary to support MSDE’s Power BI projects.

Education and Experience:

• A four-year degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• A minimum of two years of experience with Microsoft Power BI is essential.
• Candidates must be willing and available to work onsite at the MSDE location as needed.
• Prior experience in the K12 education sector is strongly preferred.
• Experience with state and/or federal reporting in an educational context is also preferred.
