Certified Activities Director

Position Summary:

The Certified Activities Director will be responsible for planning and providing activities that support and maintain the resident's quality of life, addressing the resident's social, physical, spiritual and mental health.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs, in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan •
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the Activity Programs to ensure all patients'/residents ‘assessed needs are met.
  • Meets with administration, medical and nursing staff, and other related departments in planning activities.
  • Assists in the development of the department budget and monitors expenditures to stay within that budget.
  • Assists in the development of and participate in regularly scheduled orientation and in-service training programs as related to the social, emotional and recreational needs of the patients/residents.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Compiles and maintains an activities schedule, including available projects, crafts, resources, etc.
  • Makes routine visits to patients/residents and assists with crafts, projects, etc., as necessary.
  • Makes recommendations to the Administrator for the equipment and supply needs of the department.
  • Schedules movies, plans parties and provides games for patients/residents.
  • Provides craft supplies and materials and supervises activities.
  • Assists bed bound patients/residents by visiting with them, writing letters, running errands, making appointments, etc., as necessary.
  • Assists in providing library service for patients/residents through cooperation with local library.
  • Serves on various committees of the facility as may be appointed by the Administrator.
  • Participates in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the patient/resident and family.
  • Attends and participates in professional activities and programs.
  • Assists in making appointments for the patient/resident/family as requested or appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Activities Certification preferred but not required
  • The ideal candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, exceptional customer service, and a desire to serve Seniors
  • The successful candidate will have at least 6 months of prior experience in a similar occupation
  • Must have previous experience working with elderly patients
  • The ability to speak and read English is required
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working with residents in long-term care
  • At least minimal experience in planning and directing activities for elderly residents, and in planning and organizing special programs for residents, families and staff
  • Good verbal communication skills, including ability to give directions to others in a manner that is pleasant and easily understood
  • Ability to display enthusiasm and a positive attitude in promoting activities, and in enlisting the support of facility team members for activity programming
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices needed in the maintenance of the facility
  • Skill in the use of various hand and power tools.
  • Ability not to pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place.
  • Ability to meet the general health requirements set forth by the guidelines of the facility, which include a medical and/or physical examination.
  • Ability to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25lbs to a minimum height of three feet and able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum of three feet.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school and/or trade school graduate.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the maintenance of a long-term care, hospital or other related facility.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of federal/state regulations relating to environmental/physical plant, as well as Life Safety Codes of a long-term care facility is a plus.
