Company: Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America, Inc. Job Description: One worker is being sought for the position of Project Engineer with the following duties: Manage specification, design, manufacture, & qualification of custom & standard capital equipment used for pharmaceutical & biopharmaceutical product manufacturing. Specifically: • Fully manage & direct project requirements & specifications for all of project team • Interface effectively with customer stakeholders • Make sound component & sub-supplier selections • Manage project timelines & budgets • Commissioning & validating assembled equipment • Participate in customer site installation, testing, & training • Apply customer-focused mindset • Pursue continual improvement • Occasional exposure to pressurized liquids, live electrical circuits, &/or chemical solutions requiring proper personal protective equipment (provided) • Ensure project processes are executed & documented in accordance with established procedures & quality checks Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Project Engineering – 6 to 14 concurrent pieces of equipment (60-75%) • Serve as primary stakeholder & owner of customer equipment projects • Provide technical & practical expertise to support Project Manager • Review & understand detailed customer specifications & interpret requirements to appropriate stakeholders • Create & / or review design documents, including technical drawings & specification documents • Specify appropriate components & materials in accordance with project requirements, subject matter expertise for process & design points (calculations & sizing), & consideration of vendor selection, component suitability & availability, price, & lead time • Advise Quality Control on specifications for component receipt & approval specific to project • Write & execute detailed project-specific test protocols in accordance with GAMP & established templates & practices. Testing activities include mechanical & automation commissioning, GAMP qualification, customer Factory Acceptance Testing & customer Site Acceptance Testing • Construct user manuals and / or customer-facing documents to comply with project requirements & realize customer satisfaction, & perform engineering review of final documentation turnover packages Project Management – 1 to 5 concurrent projects (20-30%) • Identify, clarify, & manage project scope internally & with customer, facilitating change orders as necessary • Employ effective communication strategies with internal & external project stakeholders, including recurring & ad-hoc meetings as appropriate • Develop & manage project schedule & communicate schedule updates & critical paths with stakeholders • Communicate project budget for labor & materials & manage actively throughout project to maximize project margin • Communicate with suppliers to manage delivery of components & materials & secure expediting when necessary • Communicate expectations & required milestone deliverables with internal departments including design, purchasing, assembly, automation, logistics, quality, & field service. Customer Support (10-15%) • Manage assigned customer accounts as primary technical owner of products installed at customer sites by serving as first line of support for all technical concerns or issues including customer inquiries, complaints, & upgrade requests using customer-focused approach • Address customer issues in person, over phone, or via web-based tools by effectively communicating solutions to customer & providing effective training to relevant personnel • Entertain customers locally or at customer’s facility when appropriate in a project schedule by building relationships & spending social time after normal business hours Internal Projects (5-20%) • Lead realization of new product offering from handover to Engineering from Design & Development through first customer order • Contribute to new product designs with innovative ideas, practical design feedback, & product risk/benefit analyses • Research technology, components, companies, or solutions This worker will not directly supervise other workers. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Biochemical Engineering (foreign equivalent accepted) and two (2) years / 24 months of experience in building or operating process equipment and the following skills / tools: Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015 preferred but not required) and current Good Manufacturing Practices Travel 3 to 10 weeks in a year to visit domestic and international customer sites for project kickoffs, equipment installations, or other activities (depending on individual assignments and quantity and scope of active projects).
