ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Audio Visual Technician - Swing Shift to join our team.
The salary range for this position: $42,000.00 - 46,000.00

Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

Every positionat ArtCenter plays an important part in carrying out the values, goals,strategic vision, and mission of the College. This includes diversity,equity, inclusion, access, belonging (DEIAB) and culture.

This position requires solo work with limited supervision in afternoon to evening hours. The incumbent will have responsibilities supporting all events, which use technology across campus. This includes the pre-production, production, set-up, and take-down of equipment for media events. The position is also responsible for equipment maintenance and its use throughout all campus locations. Support and administration of Zoom falls within the same scope of support. As a member of the Educational Media Services team, the incumbent works with the rest of the team to support AV needs and acts as a backup to team members. All members are responsible for ensuring that events (whether in a classroom, auditorium, or other location) are handled with appropriate attention and customer care.

This is a full-time on-site position withthe following schedule: Monday-Friday 2:00 PM-10:00 PM.

Morning and weekend hours may be assigned for certain events.

Essential Functions

Operational — 50%

  • Incorporate technical, creative, and client requirements in planning events. Ensure smooth execution of the event and provide quick and effective response as situational challenges arise.
  • Solicit feedback from the client to identify areas of improvement for future events.
  • Ensure that equipment is completely returned for future use
  • Prioritization of upgrades and/or new installations of classrooms or conference rooms
  • Set up and/or provide support at high profile events such as the Board of Trustees, Grad Show and Graduation
  • Transport, assemble, set up and remove A/V equipment for events following proper practices and safeguards
  • Process incoming support requests via phone, email, or walk-up inquiries.
  • Provide basic instruction on the operation of A/V equipment to customers as necessary
  • As assigned, provide input and assistance during vendor installation process including coordination, resource allocation, and quality control
  • Assure strict compliance with all safety regulations, requirements, and standards

 Technical — 45%

  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of all AV technology
  • Serve as a backup for Auditorium projectionists which includes running several types of Media, including Blu-ray, DMS, and 35 mm
  • Documentation of work process, procedure, and user/worker education
  • Inventory control of audio-visual equipment located in classrooms, equipment center & replacement stock
  • Support and Administration of Zoom

 Non-Essential Duties — 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an audio video event setup and support environment
  • Strong knowledge of audio-visual systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, and vendors
  • Ability to prioritize and take direction in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Commitment to provide excellent customer service
  • Must have a sound understanding of safe production practices
  • Must be well-versed in various file-based video formats, to serve as backup to Auditorium Projectionist as needed
  • A commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree in related field such as Multimedia, Audio Visual and/or Digital Communications from an accredited college or university
  • A basic low voltage background and knowledge
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures
  • Experience in an educational setting
  • Zoom administration and support

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office, classroom or auditorium setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time viewing computer monitor; interactions with other individuals. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work and move about in a school setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight (up to 50 pounds); to operate modern office and A/V equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard and electronic diagnostic tools; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as setting up equipment, viewing a computer terminal and other normal technician work with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively during normal business communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
