Arnold Porter is Hiring a Remote Director of Billing & Collections

The Finance & Accounting Department of Arnold & Porter has a Director of Billing & Collections opening. This position may work 100% virtual/remote in a firm approved U.S. state or work in any of our U.S. offices. The Director of Billing & Collections will play a crucial role in overseeing and optimizing the financial processes of the firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing billing operations, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, and maximizing collections efficiency. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of financial systems and related technology, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external clients. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to optimize the billing and collections process, ensuring compliance with firm policies and industry regulations.
  • Overseeing the billing cycle, including invoice generation, distribution, and tracking, to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Managing the collections process, including monitoring outstanding invoices, communicating with attorneys, and clients, regarding payment status, and resolving billing disputes.
  • Analyzing billing and collections data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance revenue generation.
  • Collaborating with attorneys, partners, and other stakeholders to address billing and collections issues, providing guidance on client billing arrangements, and streamlining processes.
  • Leading and mentoring a dispersed hybrid/remote billing and collections team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with attorneys, addressing their billing inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Staying informed about industry best practices, trends, and technologies related to billing and collections, and implementing innovative solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, MBA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in billing and collections management, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment, with a strong understanding of legal billing practices and regulations.
  • Prior experience working with leading law firm time and billing applications such as: Aderant Expert, Elite Enterprise, Elite 3E, etc. is required.
  • Prior experience and working knowledge of ARCS strongly preferred.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite specifically Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Familiar with team collaboration platforms MS Teams and SmartSheet.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead a team, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and communicate with clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines with a focus on delivering exceptional results.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all financial matters.
  • Ability to travel to U.S.-based firm offices.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $175,000 to $275,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
