This is a professional position in the Community Health Services Bureau of the Public Health Division. The programs in this Bureau provide the full range of services to improve and maintain the overall health of pregnant women as well as both women and men of childbearing age who desire family planning methods. Services include testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases as well as medications through the Virginia Medication Assistance Program (VA MAP).
This Public Health Nurse (Community Health) works with a multidisciplinary team providing services in a clinical setting and through public health outreach in the community. The clinical services include: Maternity, Pregnancy testing, Family Planning, Immunizations, Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV Testing, and AIDS Drug Assistance. The clinics serve an ethnically and culturally diverse population. Approximately 55% of clients are Spanish speaking, some with limited English proficiency.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.
The salary listed above is effective July 1, 2024.
Work Hours: 40 hours/week. Flexible schedule Monday through Friday within core hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Some evening hours are required weekly to cover evening clinics.
