Position Summary:

The director of marketing role at Arkansas Tech University is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track staff position that reports to the assistant vice president for enrollment management.
The successful candidate will provide leadership for projects and initiatives that motivate prospective students to apply for admission to and enroll at Arkansas Tech University as the leader of the ATU Office of University Marketing. In addition, the director of marketing collaborates with campus entities such as university relations, alumni, development, athletics, student affairs, and academic affairs to create resources and solutions for projects and initiatives that support the university mission.
The position is responsible for ensuring new media broadcasting is integrated with other traditional media efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing/Branding

Formulate and execute strategies and tactics for external audiences in consultation with relevant College departments. External audiences include, but are not limited to, prospective traditional students and their families, K-12 (guidance counselors, teachers, superintendents), adult prospective students, community agencies and organizations, business and industry, elected officials, and the media.
Develop and annually review/update Marketing Plan, including all forms of marketing and promotional tactics as well as tracking and measuring progress toward goals, to guide department activities and provide transparency to internal constituencies.
Develop, oversee, and protect the university brand, including an effective and consistent look and feel of the institution's external website as well as maintaining Brand Guidelines.
Engage in and/or oversee outreach to administration, faculty, and staff to obtain news and feature story content.
Collaborate with the external audiences on tasks as needed including support for fundraising, events, alumni, and retiree communications.
Lead collaboration with the Admissions office to design, produce, and distribute an annual omni-channel student recruitment campaign.
Lead collaboration with the Advancement and Alumni offices to produce two annual issues of the university alumni magazine.
Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships with internal university stakeholders.

Operational Communications

Annually review/update the Crisis Communication Plan and lead the Crisis Communication Team. Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
Direct the strategy for media buys and maintains vendor contracts. Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media groups, including traditional print and broadcast.
Coordinate with procurement, and other offices, for oversight of contracts and preparation of scope of criteria for bid solicitations.
Oversee print and mailing purchasing and maintains vendor contracts.
Coordinate and manage all content on external website, including creating templates and workflow; maintaining institutional level pages; and, as needed, editing. Publish content provided by content contributors.
Coordinate the development of a comprehensive Communication Plan. In collaboration with supervisors, include designated offices' responsibilities. Monitor the execution to ensure branding, scheduling, and tracking.
Provide or oversee training on external web content updating.

Management

Provide management support for website strategy development and implementation.
Provide management support for content marketing and social media strategy implementation on all top-level university social media accounts.
Provide management support for print publication development, printing, and distribution.
Manage the departmental budget and assess the time progress of actual-to-budget.
Supervise and evaluate staff.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Exemplary planning, project management, time management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
Refined writing style with exemplary writing and editorial skill sets
Understanding of publication print processes and layouts
Strong marketing and public relations background
Experience and demonstrated proficiency in print and web-based publishing software
Supervisory experience and ability to manage a collaborative project team
Knowledge of CRM best practices
Knowledge of marketing data analytics and data attribution best practices
Ability to exercise substantial independent judgment and discretion and maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to lead others through the establishment of strong professional relationships
Interviewing and research skills necessary to gather in-depth information from multiple sources
Ability to simplify complex issues, construct multiple messages targeted at various audiences, and effectively communicate those to the multiple and varied audiences
Knowledge of best practices and use of social media, website strategy, print publication development, and video content development.
Flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends.
Must be self-directed, but comfortable working in a collaborative environment


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, English or a related field
Experience writing and producing quality content and publications
Five years of work experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications
Experience managing website, print, and video content
Experience managing omni-channel marketing strategies
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field
Ten years of work experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications
Work experience as a supervisor
Work experience in a higher education marketing environment
Work experience with using marketing analytics to inform overall marketing strategy


Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

Main work location is the Russellville Campus of Arkansas Tech University
Some travel to other campuses is required
Some night and weekend work is required
Must be able to carry approximately 20 pounds of video equipment
Bending and lifting with equipment will be necessary
