Duties and Responsibilities:

Inclusive Excellence Program Management:

  • Assist with developing, managing, and monitoring the implementation of broadening participation programs and initiatives to advance inclusive excellence in the faculty, staff, and students’ understanding of inclusive STEM learning.
  • Collaborate with the Research Experience and Mentoring undergraduate program to support the Equity and Inclusion training and the curriculum seminar course by implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, theories, and concepts to support STEM-inclusive curriculum content.
  • Drive accountability to project timelines, deliverables, and outcomes, and develop processes, documentation, and communications for program roll-out and ongoing support.
  • Serve as a DEI subject matter expert, providing perspectives, insights, and knowledge to ensure DEI initiatives align with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Support the strategic implementation of intercultural engagement, innovation, identity, contemplative practices, intergenerational learning, and healing initiatives.
  • Design and develop engaging learning materials and tools (videos and online materials) for the managed programmatic offerings.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Prepare and develop quarterly and annual reports, manuals, and associated materials on DEI initiatives and strategies for the EFRC.
  • Use analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret and evaluate trends, provide direction, and recommend best practice actionable solutions and resources to improve DEI efforts.
  • Define and track key performance indicators.

Planning and Administrative Support:

  • Collaborate effectively with the NewFoS leadership and external partners around project planning to meet DEI's strategic objectives.
  • Organize and attend all DEI committee/group meetings, documenting informational updates, discussions, and action items.
  • Help coordinate materials (stories from students/community engagement) for the e-newsletter.

Outreach & Collaboration:

  • Coordinate measurable outreach initiatives and in-person engagement to activate the DEI strategy for the EFRC through educational campaigns with local schools, community colleges, industries, non-profit organizations, and other community entities.
  • Prepare emails, presentations, and other communication materials (e.g., newsletters, brochures, manuals, promotional information).
  • Participate in conferences and forums to stay abreast of cutting-edge issues and trends, benchmark leading organizations, enhance presence, and strengthen center recognition.
  • Recruit students at all levels of programmatic involvement; identify gaps in service to inform expansion of learning outcomes and coordinate outreach campaigns to increase student participation.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Education Coordinator (and the education initiatives under their coordination) and with center-wide campus partners in the design and review of inclusion-related policies, strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education Programmatic Design: Knowledge of inclusive leadership training design, development, and methodologies in STEM contexts; development of inclusive learning activities (including digital) and lessons; and writing for both formal and informal learning spaces. Deliver effective, interactive, high-impact learning programs, as needed
  • Communication: Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Takes an interest in new ways to communicate science information using technology and emergent learning tools like AI. Strong documentation, story-telling, and technical writing skills. 
  • Mentoring: Strong Background in mentoring minoritized students in STEM career pathways. Ability to create inclusive learning spaces and experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Team/Office Organization: Ability to develop web-based content (such as web page content). Record and disseminate minutes during all meetings, including virtual. High degree of emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills, communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment while under pressure and in a variety of situations.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships and trust across diverse experiences, identities, and positions through cultural awareness, sensitivity, and humility. Responsible, organized, and service oriented to lead intergroup coordination across five time zones in the execution of multiple programs. Collaborative style and ability to accomplish goals through working with a variety of people.
  • Subject matter expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion principles, theories and concepts.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Self-motivated, able to alternate easily between working independently and on a team.
  • Understanding and appreciation of key issues confronting groups that have been marginalized.
  • Proficient in implementing and analyzing survey tools.
  • Ability to gather information through informal chats and discussions.
  • Proficient in using data management tools (i.e. Smartsheets) and Microsoft Office Suites, Teams, and OneDrive, etc.
