SALARY:
$15.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • High School Diploma and at least a college sophomore with strong academic record.
  • Able to reside in residence hall at Arizona Western College during summer camp.
  • Experience working with middle and high school age students.
Preferred:
  • Experience working in residential life.
  • Have overcome barriers similar to those faced by program participants.
  • Experience with Upward Bound and/or Talent Search programs, or other programs focused on students who are low-income, first-generation, or academically disadvantaged is preferred.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
  • Current driver’s license with no restrictions

Classification:

  • Non-exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • 32-40 hours per week Sunday-Friday; Hours vary
  • Work flexible schedule to meet program objectives as needed

Work Environment:
  • Some outside events are subject to different weather, noise, and lighting conditions.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy (at least 25 pounds) amounts of weight
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
Travel:
  • May be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation
  • May be required to transport students
Note:
  • Yuma Campus – Residence Hall
  • Grant Funded Position - subject to continued funding
  • Temporary Position – May 27th – June 27th

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
The primary objective of the resident assistant position is to ensure the well-being of the summer camp participants in their care, especially regarding safety, morale, discipline, and interpersonal relationships. Serve as a role model for middle and high school students.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Serves Students. Provide personal, social, and/or skill development programming for 12 to 15 assigned students and work in collaboration with other residential staff to provide programming to all summer program participants. Submit a weekly written evaluation of assigned students.
Supervise student behavior and take disciplinary action according to the summer camp discipline policies and guidelines. Communicate all problems promptly to the Camp Director. Monitor conditions of the residence hall rooms and report any problems to the Camp Director.
Attend daily and/or weekly staff meetings. Conduct planning, preparation, and implementation for evening extra-curricular activities. Responsible for monitoring equipment and supplies used for summer camp activities.
Work with fellow residential staff to organize and provide tutoring for summer camp residents. Communicate regularly with UB staff concerning tutoring needs and the progress of students.
Monitor the residential hall front desk; check-in and check-out of summer camp participants; equipment sign-out, and distribution of snacks.
Supports and participates in strategic initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
