The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking to fill a postdoc vacancy in clinical informatics to join Dr. Adela Grando’s research group. To learn more about the group’s work, please visit the SHARES’s website at asu.shares.com.

The ideal candidate will be strongly interested in building informatics solutions based on interoperability standards and clinical terminologies to exchange electronic medical records. Clinical informatics training is required. Excellent writing skills are essential for manuscript writing and proposal development.

The postdoctoral scholar will be able to work with an excellent, collaborative, multi-disciplinary team and contribute to multiple projects funded by NIDA. They will also collaborate on future grant applications. Currently funded team projects examine patients’ desire to control electronic medical record sharing. The scholar will design data collection tools, collect data, plan and conduct analysis, prepare first-author, peer-reviewed publications, collaborate with other team members, help mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and present their work at national and international conferences.

The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research, and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business, and application of diagnostics. Our innovative organizational structure includes translational teams that move science from labs into communities with evidence-based interventions that make a difference, as well as affinity networks where teams of people work together to improve methodologies and processes. All our programs, in and out of the classroom, are designed with the goal of improving the health of people and communities.

Current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at the ASU Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate or terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DrPH, ScD) in a field relevant to clinical informatics research (e.g., biomedical informatics, health informatics, population health, biomedical engineering, statistics and computer science.)
• Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with diverse colleagues, community partners, and staff.
• Shows support for ASU’s commitment to inclusive excellence as outlined in the ASU charter

Desired Qualifications

• Expertise in analyzing clinical data sets, such as electronic medical record data.
• Knowledge of standards for electronic medical record sharing (e.g., FHIR) and clinical terminologies (e.g., ICD-10).
• Existing research agenda that incorporates data analytics or computer programming applied to healthcare.
• Potential for high-impact research.
• Evidence of participation in team science initiatives.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
