Staff Veterinarian (Part-Time)

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Evaluate owned animals brought in for examination. Perform physical exams, diagnostics, therapeutics and determine an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Give clear recommendations, treatment plans and written post-op instructions to owners.
  • Perform general surgeries, including spay/neuter, and comprehensive oral health assessments and treatments.
  • Occasionally examine and oversee treatment of shelter animals and provide accurate and precise instructions to the clinic technicians. This may include evaluations, devising treatment plans and altering shelter animals, including those who are being held as part of an ongoing investigation, adoptable pets awaiting their new home; as well as sick and injured stray and surrendered animals.
  • Maintain all medical records in accordance with AZ Veterinary Medicine Examining Board standards.
  • Monitor, dispense and log controlled substances according to established DEA standards.
  • Maintain active DEA license at facility address.
  • Assist other departments in situations involving the welfare of the animals, such as testifying in court, appearing in media opportunities, providing necessary documentation regarding the health of the animals and other situations requiring medical expertise.
  • Provide input and recommendations to Lead Veterinarian as it pertains to improving services and community impact.
  • Work cooperatively with the Manager of Veterinary Services to achieve clinic goals.
  • Attend seminars to satisfy continuing education requirements for Arizona D.V.M. license renewal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine OR Veterinary Medical Doctor Degree and licensed to practice in Arizona.
  • Two years of experience in veterinary practice with an emphasis on quality medicine and surgery.
  • Must work well with others, treat coworkers with respect, and maintain a positive attitude for both internal colleagues and external customers.
  • Good communications skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Language: Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.

Mathematical: Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.

Technical: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment), and practice management software. Experience with other practice management software helpful.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver's License.

  • Regular attendance is required. Access to reliable transportation.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
