    INTERIM HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
    PHOENIX CHARTER SCHOOL
    Phoenix Charter School’s High School Principal primary task is to develop youth through active, student-centered instruction and takes pride and satisfaction in student growth. This interim position provides an opportunity for the employee who desires to develop meaningful learning opportunities to prepare youth to become caring, committed, productive citizens.
    This interim position will serve the 2022-23 school year as directed by the charter school’s board of directors for a temporary term as needed. The immediate needs requiring attention are: TSPC licensure assistance for new hires, finalization of updates to school’s student code of conduct, course matrix of offerings for the fall trimester, coordination of training development for new teacher orientation, student in-take process revetment, and student 504 plan coordination.
    The primary purpose of the position of High School Principal is to serve as the instruction and school climate facilitator. The principal will assume primary responsibility for: the organization and supervision of the school’s educational program; student growth and achievement; instructional staff; and building effective relations with students, parents, and district colleagues. This position is directly supervised by the Executive Director.
    Opening: Full-Time, 2022-2023 School Year
    Assignment:This position is a confidential level, salaried position. Charter personnel generally follow a 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM schedule. Dates of service follow the adopted Roseburg Public Schools secondary calendar
    Compensation: $45.00 to $59.00 hourly rate DOE & education level

    Principal Qualifications and Abilities
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree
    • Three years of classroom teaching experience and one year of related administrative experience
    • Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills
    • Hold or become qualified for an Oregon Charter Administrative Registry
    • Have a valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability, and criminal justice fingerprint clearance
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Teaching or administrative experience with at-risk youth, special education, and/or diverse student populations
    • Training and experience in innovative teaching strategies and learning styles, career and technical education, adaptive teaching, behavior support systems, and staff development
    • Hold or become qualified for an Oregon Administrative License
    Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of best practices including culturally responsive practices, assessment literacy, common core state standards, and strategies for at-risk students
    • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work
    • The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
    • A commitment to attaining both personal and collective goals in order to ensure the success of all students.
    • Knowledge and experience with student information systems and data tracking
    • Have a strong foundation in behavioral interventions and supports to ensure that student behavior is managed uniformly across the school
    Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    School Climate Facilitation:
    • Develop and maintain an effective, inclusive learning climate in the school
    • Assures a safe and positive learning environment for students and staff
    • Utilize all resources of the school and community in developing the most effective educational system
    • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning; deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds; and communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents
    • Celebrates the success of the whole school, as well as individuals within the school
    • Co-develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students as established by district policies and procedures
    • Encourage parent and community participation in the school’s program
    • Act as an ambassador for the school; this includes but is not limited to: conducting site tours, development of program literature and website content, responding to inquiries from outside organizations, publicly sharing the successes of the school
    Student Academic Programming:
    • Administer the school and its instructional programs
    • Facilitate communication between staff, students, and parents for the purpose of evaluation situations, solving problems, and /or resolving conflicts
    • Ensures clear and measurable goals are established and focused on critical needs regarding improving overall school success and individual student achievement at the school level
    • Ensures school representation in all IEP and 504 education plan meetings or other meetings involving assignment of resources related to accommodations, services, and goal attainment for students with disabilities
    • Conduct parent conferences as needed and provide progress reports on students to parents
    Staff Leadership:
    • Provide leadership in staff development of the instruction program
    • Supervise the school instructional staff and be responsible for the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, assignment, and annual evaluation of instructional staff
    • Co-develop and provide in-service programs for the staff’s professional development and growth
    • Conduct staff meetings
    Administrative Operations:
    • Interpret and implement board policies, administrative regulations and negotiated agreements
    • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to current and future job assignment
    • Prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration
    • In coordination with the Business Manager, supervise, administer, and allocate the charter school’s financial budget and make decisions for its use
    • Attend regularly scheduled School Board meetings as needed
    • Serves on committees and fulfills administrative assignments as delegate by the Executive Director
    • Confer with district office representatives in regard to the charter agreement and school needs
    • Oversee reporting and manage performance of charter school’s Oregon Department of Education grant awards
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
    Phoenix Charter High School:
    Established in 2005, Phoenix Charter is an award-winning school serving an enrollment of 190 at-risk students, grades 8-12. Our school has a designed facility sited on a picturesque twelve-acre campus in east Roseburg, OR. We have outstanding community support and are recognized regionally for our innovative approach.     • Early College – Designed to help students prepare for and make the transition to Umpqua Community College. Students build their college experience through on-line community college courses and then transition to on-campus community college coursework to complete final high school credits and to prepare them for a successful college transition.
    • Pathways – In addition to academic instructional assignments, each teacher provides their student cohort with academic advisement, social-emotional skill development, and Pathways to college and career curriculum (first period).
