ARISE Child and Family Services is Hiring an Employment Consultant I (Oswego County) Near Oswego, NY

Title: Employment Consultant I

Location(s): Syracuse Office and/or Oswego Office

Department/Program: Employment Services

Supervisor/Title: Employment Supervisor for ACCES-VR Services

FLSA Classification: Fulltime/Hourly Non-exempt

Salary: $19.00 to $21.00 per hour

Required Credentials: None

Drive on Agency Business: Yes. May be required to use own vehicle on Agency business.

Work Environment: Work within the Main Office in a building with elevator. No outdoor requirement.

This position’s department: The Employment Services department provides support to individuals looking to achieve and maintain employment. Staff assist individuals in developing their plan and reaching their employment goals. ARISE serves Onondaga and Oswego Counties for approved individuals.

Position Summary:

The Employment Consultant I provides support to the department under the guidance of the Employment Supervisor for ACCES-VR Services. The Employment Consultant I delivers high-quality support for individuals receiving employment services authorized by ACCES-VR (Adult Career & Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation). The Employment Consultant I must have a desire to work with individuals with disabilities, including students with disabilities and their families; have knowledge and understanding of the intent of services; have the ability to engage, work with, and communicate with individuals receiving services; and have strong communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide services authorized by ACCES-VR (Adult Career & Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation).
  • Maintain an active caseload and provide job coaching services.
  • Document service outcomes and write clear, concise progress reports in compliance with ACCES-VR requirements.
  • Assess and monitor service progress.
  • Communicate and/or meet with ACCES-VR representatives and other providers as necessary.
  • Organize and maintain individual records to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Collect and enter data into the appropriate database.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor and relevant staff.
  • Attend relevant and necessary trainings.
  • Participate in agency and departmental meetings.
  • Implement ARISE’s compliance program and the Employee Code of Conduct as required.
  • Uphold policies and procedures.
  • Exercise sound judgment as a matter of course and hold protected health information and other sensitive information in the strictest of confidence in accordance with ARISE and HIPAA policies. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Capabilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency; ability to learn new software.
  • Familiarity with ACCES-VR services and regulations.
  • Clean driver’s license and registered, inspected, insured and reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screenings.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in rehabilitation placement or related fields, and enrollment in a specialized course approved by ACCES-VR; or 
  • Bachelor's degree, enrollment in a specialized course, and enrollment in a master's degree program in vocational rehabilitation counseling or evaluation or related areas; or 
  • A combination of education and experience which, in the judgment of ACCES-VR, is substantially equivalent to the standards of this subdivision. 

Confidentiality: High-level confidentiality is required for access to all organization records.

Safety Compliance: Office functions are performed while maintaining a safe work environment.

Physical Requirements Essential for Safe and Effective Job Performance:

  • Ability to successfully remain sitting or working at a desk for prolonged periods.
  • Vision sufficient to maintain a New York State Driver’s License and constant use of a computer.
  • Speech and hearing sufficient for communication.
  • Ability to successfully work on a computer as a significant responsibility.
  • Full range of motion to move safely in the office and outside locations which may not have accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, walk, stoop, reach in all directions to move freely and quickly within any area.
  • Must be able to lift or move items necessary for events and other related activity.
  • Ability to travel in own vehicle to all job-related out-of-office functions or meetings as required.
  • Ability to report on time and remain for overtime as needed.
