Job Title: CASAC Counselor

Job Description:
Perform a wide variety of tasks and activities designed to affect the lasting recovery and rehabilitation of individuals with illness of alcohol and drug abuse. Such activities include group and individual counseling, patient assessment and treatment planning, case management and other assigned responsibilities that deal directly with the reversing of negative behavior characteristics.
Counselors are assigned to the treatment component of the multi-disciplinary program and as such, their counseling sessions and other assigned duties in accord with the program’s day-to-day schedule of activities, the programs OASAS-approved work scope, such as daily required units of service delivery and the comprehensive needs of each counselor caseload. Many services provided by counselors, as members of a medically supervised clinical team are Medicaid and contribute to the organization’s financial viability and ability to provide quality services to a low-income patient.
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor CASAC to provide SUD and COD Screening; Intake; Orientation; SUD Assessment; SUD Diagnostic Impression; LOC as determined by LOCADTR; Treatment Planning; Individual & Group Counseling; Family Counseling; Psycho-education; Case Management; Crisis Intervention; Client Education; Referral; Reporting & Recordkeeping; Care Coordination.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
∙Practices of social case work.
∙Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local Social Service Agencies.∙
∙Working knowledge of psychology, personality, group dynamics and their application
∙Working knowledge of the system of social service that provides services to chemical abusers including treatment programs, therapeutic centers and employment/educational opportunities.
∙Working knowledge of the provisions of Federal, State and Local welfare laws, rules, regulations and procedures.
∙Working knowledge of chemical Dependence program policies and treatment.
∙Ability to communicate and otherwise relate to clients, administrators, parents, and others in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, both verbally and in writing.
∙Ability to listen, understand and appreciate the worth/value of clients.
∙Ability to establish rapport and meaningful therapeutic relationship with patients.
∙Ability to provide a positive role model.
∙Ability to inspire confidence, determination and trust in clients. ∙Ability to motivate patients in adopting positive values and behavioral patterns.
∙Ability to deal with self-prejudice, not letting it interfere in relationships with clients.
∙Ability to assist clients in examining, understanding and dealing with their prejudices.
∙Ability to recognize those tasks and functions that arise within chemical dependence treatment programs for which the Counselor must be personally responsible or ensure that other program personnel assume responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
