Archbishop Carroll seeks a full-time Social Studies teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Archbishop Carroll High School is a Catholic, college preparatory, co-educational school in the heart of Washington, DC. Job Title: Social Studies Teacher - Grades 9-12Department: AcademicsReports to: Principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Job SummaryThe candidate must have strong subject-matter knowledge; effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills, and can prepare, plan, create, and execute informative and engaging lesson plans for their subjects. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to differentiate classroom instruction to accommodate various classroom learners Social Studies Sequence of Courses: 9th Grade - World History10th Grade - Western Civilization11th Grade - U.S. History/A.P. U.S.
History12th Grade - Government/A.P. GovernmentPsychologyPhilosophy of KnowingPrimary Roles and ResponsibilitiesPlan and implement rigorous and engaging lesson plans in alignment with Pre-AP and AP standards.Teach a full-time courseload, lead an advisory group, and participate in supervisory duties. Use data effectively to encourage and assess student growth and inform instruction Create a classroom culture built on respect, growth, and love of learning.Use engaging strategies and cooperative learning techniques. Communicate effectively with parents and families in order to best ensure student successSupport the Catholic Identity of the schoolParticipate in the life of the school including spirit, student activities, and Christian serviceBe an active member of the Carroll adult learning community including attending all faculty meetingsOther duties as assigned.QualificationsHas teaching experience, preferably in an urban, high school setting.Is certified to teach in MD, DC, or VA or is willing to gain certification within three yearsDemonstrates strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, collaboration, and flexibility.Has a growth mindset and a commitment to meeting the needs of every student in a diverse population.Is committed to his/her own learning and professional development.Minimum Educational Requirements: Bachelors degree in content areas they wish to teach with a commitment to social justice and working with high school studentsMinimum Experience Requirements: Teaching experience and teacher certification is preferred, but teachers will be required to be certified 3 years from the date of hire.
