Job Summary

In the following areas, a principal:

Faith Community

Articulates and acts in accordance with the Philosophy of Catholic Education, Archdiocesan policies related to the religious dimension of the Catholic school, and the school’s mission statement
Acts in accordance with Gospel values
Participates in building faith community
Takes responsibility for personal and communal spiritual formation opportunities in an effort to build faith community
Administration and Leadership

Demonstrates effective instructional leadership
Implements personnel policies and procedures effectively
Provides for efficient and effective school operation
Uses appropriate and effective decision-making procedures
Engages appropriate members of the school community in designing and implementing plans for the school’s future
Communication and Interpersonal Relationships

Exhibits cooperation with local school and Archdiocesan administrators
Exhibits cooperation with teachers and other colleagues
Communicates effectively with and maintains appropriate relationships with students
Communicates effectively with and maintains positive relationships with parents
Conveys a positive image of the school to the larger community

A principal in a Catholic elementary school is a knowledgeable and practicing Catholic. The principal should also have a thorough understanding of and commitment to the Catholic philosophy of education and the Witness Statement for Those Who Serve in Catholic Education. Principals should have prior teaching experience. A number of these years should have been in Catholic elementary education.

Principals are expected to hold a valid teaching certificate and have a minimum of a Master’s Degree with at least twenty (20) hours of graduate work in educational administration/leadership or state certification in administration. Principals are also expected to hold an elementary school religion teacher certification or religion

coordinator certificate from the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Consideration will be given to applicants who are working toward proper certification.
