The Gathering Place is Hiring a 24-25 Middle School Teacher Near San Antonio, TX

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the mission and design principles of The Gathering Place.
  • Embody TGP Collective Norms
  • Work with an assigned caseload of children. Classrooms may be self-contained or departmentalized for portions of the day
  • Create and provide lesson plans and units of learning for Coach/Manager feedback
  • Design project-based units of learning rooted in authentic and meaningful learning experiences that honor student voice and agency and lead to public exhibitions of work. Units include lessons, assessments of learning, and activities
  • Prepare, plan, and implement lessons for RLA or Math and Science, Project-Based Learning, and Morning Circle according to the district's curriculum program, initiatives, and policies
  • Use assessment data to modify short and long-term plans to support all students' academic performance
  • Support the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic growth of students
  • Adapt teaching methods, lessons, and materials to meet each student's need
  • Create a classroom environment that is safe, well-maintained, and reflects the TGP model
  • Implement TGP school norms, behavior structures and expectations, behavior management system, and restorative practices
  • Follow Individual Education Programs (IEPs), contribute to the creation/updating of IEPs (if applicable), and participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings
  • Follow existing 504 plans or contribute to new 504 plans
  • Embrace a culture of feedback to continue growing in skill in supporting children's learning and development
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, members of the TGP Collaborative, and School Leaders
  • Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students and families
  • Participate in daily functions of the schools such as arrival and dismissal duties, snack and lunch duties, and recess monitoring.
  • Attend critical school events such as Professional Development Days, school events for students, and school events for caregivers and/or community members
  • Meet professional obligations, including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines, among all other policies outlined in the Staff Handbook
  • Prepare narratives as well as other periodic updates on progress
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents

  • Classroom Teachers have a duty-free lunch plus one planning period each day. About half of the weekly planning periods are dedicated to professional development and collaborative work, whether via coaching, working with school leadership, or collaborating through professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Classroom Teachers will have the opportunity to lead professional development sessions on topics that they are passionate about as part of Professional Learning Communities (which will occur during the school day) or on PD days
  • Classroom Teachers may be asked to perform additional responsibilities related to the ongoing needs of the school throughout the year
  • The workday is 7:15 - 4:00 pm. Exhibitions of learning, as well as student-led conferences, occur in the evening (4 - 8 per year)
  • There are three weeks of summer professional development starting mid-July and several professional development days built into the calendar throughout the year.

  • This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position.
  • The Gathering Place pays into TRS (Teacher Retirement System of Texas).

  • This role averages two planning periods each day. About half of the weekly planning periods are dedicated to professional development and collaborative work, whether via coaching, working with school leadership, or collaborating through professional learning communities (PLCs).   • This role may have the opportunity to lead professional development sessions on topics that they are passionate about as part of Professional Learning Communities (which will occur during the school day) or on PD days.
  • This role may be asked to perform additional responsibilities related to the ongoing needs of the school throughout the year.
  • This role may be asked to serve on campus or district committees.
  • The workday is 7:15 - 4:00 pm. Some evening events will be required, like exhibitions of learning (showcases) or school events.
  • There will be one 1-hour staff meeting after school from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM every two weeks required for this role.
  • There are three weeks of required summer professional development starting mid-July and several professional development days built into the calendar throughout the year.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must have at least one year of teaching experience
