Job Description

Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School invites you to join them in the exciting transition from a traditional Catholic elementary school to a dual language immersion education infused with Catholic identity in order to prepare students to lead and serve as faith-filled disciples in our global community. We will embrace the NativityMiguel model offering a faith-based, holistic education to the economically disadvantaged, partnering with families, and networking with the coalition.

We are seeking a full-time, full immersion and 90-10, bilingual Spanish Language & Culture teacher for Grades 1-5 for the 2020-2021 school year. Importantly, this position demands a professional educator who loves children, has impeccable classroom management, can articulate and hold high expectations for all students, and is a community builder and collaborator. Importantly, this position demands an educator who is experienced in Grades 1-5 and skilled in differentiation, is creative, and highly energetic.

St. Vincent de Paul is located in the Highland neighborhood, in the heart of Salem, Oregon. Salem is home to our state’s capital, annual film festival, incredible Pacific Northwest and Native American art, and architecture. Salem is family-friendly, with diversity celebrating many languages and cultures. Situated on the Willamette River, there are numerous gardens, parks, trails, with year-round activities. 

Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual and Bi-literate (Spanish/English)
  • Bachelor’s degree; candidates with a degree or credits in dual immersion, preferred
  • Oregon Teaching Licensed teacher (or from another state that can be transferred)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching elementary age children.
  • Must be able to work as early as 7am or as late as 6pm.
  • Will need to be fingerprinted (if not Oregon licensed), background checked, and be willing to complete Armatus training.
  • CPR & First Aid Certificate

The most competitive candidates will possess:

  • Knowledge of Oregon’s elementary standards
  • Understanding of second language acquisition
  • Significant training in literacy development
  • Experience teaching in a dual immersion program
  • Understanding of dual immersion programming and research
  • Master’s Degree in Education and more than 5 years of teaching experience
  • Possess an Oregon teaching license, or be in the process of obtaining one

All teachers are expected to:

  • Actively participate and collaborate in dual language immersion team planning meetings
  • Develop a course maps and submit weekly lesson plans
  • Plan and implement experiences to promote children’s learning (emotionally, socially, cognitively, physically).
  • Monitor, assess, analyze and document and communicate student progress
  • Maintain positive working relationships and communicate appropriately with parents through regular communications (emails, letters, etc.) and formal conferences
  • Be eager to learn, engage in ongoing professional development, desire coaching and share with colleagues
  • Share in supervision and other duties, as assigned
  • Physically be able to squat, run, sit criss cross, and lift up to 50 pounds.
