Archdiocese of Kansas City is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Kansas City, KS

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Accounting Office is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for accounting support for the Archdiocese, Deposit and Loan Fund, and Lay and Priest Retirement Plan investments which include recording all transactions and reconciling investment account statements to the General Ledger. This position is full-time, will average 40 hours per week, with the opportunity for a flexible work schedule. This position is hybrid with work completed in the Chancery office and remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyze annual financial statements and audit schedules.
  • Record all investment income and fee transactions, and reconcile investment statements to the General Ledger.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, and reconciliations to service providers for FSA, HSA retirement accounts.
  • Prepare monthly cash forecasts and request sale of assets or transfer of assets to ensure payments to the retirees are properly funded.
  • Assist with issue resolution on the invoicing and ACH payment process for billing of Welfare Benefit Plan premiums.
  • Record all stock gifts for Archdiocesan campaigns in fundraising software and prepare any pledge write-offs and adjustments as necessary. Set up all other stock gifts for proper distribution of proceeds through AP. Prepare all stock gift transmittal letters and acknowledgement/tax receipt letters.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entry (and month-end accrual entry) for every payroll through the payroll software program.
  • Generate monthly Office and Fund Reports using accounting and budget database software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize workload to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to identify problems and bring viable solutions forward.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Proficiency with data entry and data management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of accounting experience required such as maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word and Excel and other accounting, payroll and document management software platforms; standard office equipment such as 10 key, copiers, phones, fax machines and other equipment.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred.
