Description

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Accounting Office is seeking to hire a Director of Accounting, which will be responsible for professional accounting activities including analyzing and verifying fiscal records and reports ensuring compliance with regulations, preparing financial statements, providing consultative services to ministries and parishes regarding accounting practices and procedures. This position is full-time, will average 40 hours per week, with the opportunity for a flexible work schedule. This position is hybrid with work completed in the Chancery office and remotely. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the activities of the accounting staff including monitoring and evaluating performance and addressing performance issues.
  • Provide technical assistance for more complex or unusual problems. Serve as the expert in fund accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Develop and maintain accounting systems and internal control procedures, evaluating and recommending improvements.
  • Act as liaison between the Archdiocese and the external auditors. Ensure staff prepares all materials accurately and on a timely basis. 
  • Maintain accurate financial records; establish, follow and document clear and comprehensive review processes; prepare clear and accurate reports and analyses for informational and operational use.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices; knowledge of accounting theory, concepts and practices applicable to accounting requirements of not-for-profit organizations.
  • Analytical and mathematical skills for monitoring accounting records and resolving problems.
  • Plan, prioritize and organize workload to complete multiple priorities simultaneously. 
  • Strong attention to detail and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks.
  • Build and maintain constructive and collaborative relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. 
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ fund accounting experience including areas of accounts receivable and payable, payroll/benefits and accounting supervision is required; public accounting experience preferred. 
  • Advanced proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word and Excel and other accounting software platforms; standard office equipment such as 10 key, copiers, phones, fax machines and other equipment.
  • Incumbent must be a practicing Catholic, registered in a Catholic parish or faith community and must embrace in word and deed the Church’s teachings on faith and morals as articulated by the Church’s magisterium.
