Archdiocese of Detroit is Hiring a Director of Religious Education (DRE) - St Vincent Pallotti Parish Wyandotte Near Wyandotte, MI

Job Summary
The Director of Religious Education is a full-time position with an average of 35 hours a week. This position has oversight in all areas of catechesis at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, with children grades preschool-8th grade and also a Special Needs groups weekly Religious Education Program, as well as their families. The DRE will also be responsible for forming and coordinating religious education programs, classes, & sacramental preparation programs within the Parish and in consultation with DRE’s in the Family of Parishes. This person will report directly to the Pastor. Their work will strive to maintain St. Vincent Pallotti Parish mission “We, the Catholic Community of St. Vincent Pallotti Parish, gather as a family to be nurtured by the Word and nourished by the Eucharist. We are inspired by the Holy Spirit to serve others as Jesus did through outreach, education, and evangelization, along with active participation in the community.”
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Baptismal Preparation Program.
  • Coordinate OCIA Program in conjunction with FOP.
  • Oversee sacramental preparation of First Communion and Reconciliation.
  • Supervise First Communion and Confirmation sacramental preparation for children and youth.
  • Recruit catechists. Discern and call forth their gifts and talents and train and supervise catechists for certification according to diocesan policy and procedures.
  • Foster and facilitate development of a faith community among catechists; devise appropriate procedures and tools for evaluating programs and personnel.
  • Identify problems and manage conflicts. Give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Manage the Religious Education volunteers (catechists, aides, hall monitors, etc.)
  • Assure all staff and volunteers are current with background checks and Protecting God’s Children status
  • Meets with the Pastor routinely to discuss matters related to the Parish, Religious Education, and sacramental preparation.
  • Run the Home Catechesis Religious Education curriculum & program.
  • Attend and participate in Parish staff meetings and FOP meetings as required.
  • Write and submit articles for the bulletin.

Education and Experience Requirements
While not required, the preferred candidate for this position would have a college degree in a related field (or in process) and/or formal catechetical certification in ministry or theology from a Catholic Institution of higher learning. Relevant work experience is required. Must be willing to take appropriate coursework to enhance job skills. 
Must have completed Protecting God’s Children class and submit to a background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
  • Able to attend and maintain energy for both morning and evening commitments.
Travel Required
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.
